Is the game dying?
I have been noticing how there's less and less people online everyday

i dunno. i think the main problem is that the "FIGHT ME I NEED TO TRAIN" lobby died.. i kinda wish we could revive it again, as it was a good lobby.

The game is definitely dying, which is understandable. I'm over 400 hours into the game and I've enjoyed it quite a bit, but thanks to the game's low amount of original content (Since a lot of the playable content is thanks to mods) making it a bit boring, I understand that there are game modes thanks to more community mods, but they are very buggy and you just have to arrive and fight against the same 3 broken characters. It's boring a bit
(I apologize for my English, I don't speak this language very well)
As long as you have someone to hustle, the fight is not over yet

it would be sad if it did, but then again i got my hours out of this game(about 600 of them)
i hear alot of complaints like "X CHARACTER IS OP" and such, and complaints of ppl selecting someone in char select and then the other guy quitting, assumedly due to hating the char that he picked...

other issue is i wanna play certain characters but nobody has them installed.

i think if some ppl just tried to enjoy the game instead of being super competitive over it, or made lobbies with specific interests in mind like 'play anyone, we're all OP here' or w/e, it might do better...

regardless im still finding lobbies with 10-20+ players in them, so...

I damn near never post here, but if you look at player counts on SteamDB, the game has been steadily oscillating around the 1,000 player range since June 2024. The game is far from dying, its actually very healthy outside of a rising amount of quitters in pubs which is more of an frustrating inconvenience than anything. Just because a game isn't actively gaining players, or you don't see all 1,000 players online at the same time, that doesn't mean the game isn't doing well. Especially so for a fighting game, so long as players aren't actively hemorrhaging, then all's good in the neighborhood.

Interesting to see your thoughts on this. As someone who just picked the game up and is considering the multiplayer scene, I have to say the low character count and the...let's call it "interesting" balancing is definitely a turn off. That said, there's always a way if you care enough.

this prob wont help your balancing concerns but there's tons of modded characters that are REALLY well done, this game feels similar to things like MUGEN at this point in that its a platform for people to add characters to more than it's a standalone fighting game.

it's an interaction-based sandbox as well as a fighting game. as such, ivy has "neglected" character count and bloat in favor of a high number of moves, utilities, and special features
