The story had a nice twist at the end and left a lot of questions for you to ask yourself.
Requiem was a straight up game that had no scary aspects to it. They just wanted to show off their puzzle making skills.
Amnesia TDD and AMFP were alright. TDD was way better than AMFP because of the gameplay and ambience. AMFP's story seemed too obvious in my opinion, and the ending was kind of stupid and more funny than scary.
SOMA by far had the best story. Easily the best psychological horror to date. Makes you think about life in ways you never thought.
This all being said, Black Plague was indeed the best of Penumbra series and in overall gameplay, but SOMA trumps overall story.
I love the Penumbra Mods as well.
The scariest for me was Penumbra series.
In Overture, I actually enjoyed slaying the crazy mutts with the pick axe ;)
Penumbra is #2. Amnesia has slightly better atmosphere but is more focused on gameplay. Penumbra is far superior in terms of writing, especially characters.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent is #3 and still stands far above most other horror games.
Probably. If you enjoy SOMA but not Amnesia, I'm guessing it's because Amnesia's story didn't pull you in? Penumbra is more story focused like SOMA (albeit completely different thematically), and with superb writing as well (though not as effective as SOMA's).
Red is an interesting frenemy (mostly friend) while Clarence is the best gaming antagonist I have found.
No debate here though, Penumbra is one game with two (and a half) episodes.
