Target Master: Increases any type of firearm damage by 25% but decreases melee damage
(melee attacks, survival knife, combat knife, stun rod) by 50%.
Martial Arts Master: Increases any type of melee damage (melee attacks, survival knife,

so really I find that the only beneficial battle skill is Power Counter. It deals 25% more damage in a counter but has no drawbacks. :)
Yup, power counter all the way. When it gets full in No Mercy you can't avoid having to counter anyway, and it's 10 seconds bonus for each. And the machete j'avos are pretty easy to counter.
I've used Martial Arts Master with Jake, but the reduced gun damage gets you into trouble easily when things like zombie dogs and bloodshots show up.
Don't forget Limit Breaker, more points for any kill over a 50 combo.
Time Bonus+ seems somewhat obsolete if you counter a lot, 4 counters = 1 time bonus with Time Bonus+.
When playing No Mercy Duo my usual partner uses Limit Breaker, I use Power Counter. Well, with Jake I sometimes go for Martial Arts Master, but mostly Power Counter.
Time Bonus+ is useful mainly in some stages like High Seas Fortress wich has 11 time bonus or Creature Workshop which has 8. In addition, Power Counter doesn`t make you to instant kill J´avo just with a counter like it does with zombies, you still need to land 2 or 3 pistol bullets on normal J`avos before attempt to counter kill them.
Hmm, last time I played it seemed like all the shotgun counters with Coach were 1-hit-kills.
Countering becomes a reflex after a while. I'm totally keyed to the J'avos cursewords before attacking, I'm not even paying attention to the button-prompt anymore.
