Key Mapping

How did you guys keymap on your Keyboard and mouse? Why is it so F'ed up? Is it better to just play with an Xbox or PS3 controller?

It works for me, aiming with a mouse is still 1000 times better than aiming with an analog stick.
The only thing I don't like about the keymapping is that it doesn't recognize my extra mousebuttons.

oh I just map the controls to as close to the controls from RE5 PC as much as possible. I moved almost all the controls to the left side of the keyboard so I have easy access to use them.

Because the movements and stuff is all wierd. ZQSD? what?!

Direction Keys: WASD, I assume you know what goes with what on this one.
Health Tablets: 1 key = Use a Health Tablet, 2 key = auto mix herbs (Not on the numeric pad, its above the QWERTY board for both.)
Action Button: F Key
Reload and Pick Up: R Key
Opening Inventory and Alternate Fire: E Key
Display Route Guide: Q Key
Shortcut keys to dive back, forward, left and right respectively: X, Shift, Z and C.
Partner Button: V Key
Next Weapon on Keyboard: G button
Next Gernade or First Aid Spray: T button.

That should cover most of the things.

The default keys have been working for me quite well. I don't think you should feel pressured to think you need a controller to play the game, despite what so many people seem to claim about Resident Evil 5 and 6 needing them. Controllers would just inhibit my aim so much.

ZQSD? What exactly are you talking about? :)
Default for movement is WASD, Q is Route Guide, E is Inventory, dive left/backward/right is Z, X, C, using items is on F (first aid or grenade), Reload is R.
I always used the mouse wheel to change weapons and Partner command is on V.
(all default, did not change anything for my playthrough)

So... Jason did not change a lot. And I think pretty much all of that makes sense.
Maybe swapping Z and C with Q and E would be an option... er... I heard some changed sprint mode to Shift instead of Space.

What exactly do you think is F'ed up?

I did a quick search here and people had the same problem as me, pretty much what it was is that people with a different keyboard configuration had a different key mapping than other people, people who had this problem were mostly people with a Canadian mapped keyboard.

Maybe it's just because I started playing the game on PS3, but I feel like the pace of this game is better suited to a controller. That being said, in conjunction w/ the tweak to add ambient occlusion into the game, RE6 runs smoothly awesome on PC.

I am Canadian and from the biggest city here...this thing has some seriously messed configuration and I tried to set movement in the settings to wasd and it would keep me stuck in the settings with no way to get out until I reset to default...any assistence appreciated...yet I have gamed for 39 years so perhaps I will even figure this out on my own before that comes...yet still asking.

I've never experienced this but you can also just edit the config file directly. mapping.ini is located in "%userprofile%/documents/capcom/resident evil 6"

default values for movement are

FORWARD=W
BACKWARD=S
LEFT=A
RIGHT=D

Yes, already did that. What I figured was happening was that it mapped keys to multiple commands, and when I went into the Ini file it made it super easy to figure that part out...almost returned this, so glad I kept it. As my first night playing this was superior gaming. Best RE game of the series due to how I have to have good CoOp and PvP. Easily worth $10 for the complete DLC...awesome deal :)

Also because I am from Canada it does give different defaults from that, otherwise it would of been good right out of the box, seems only people from my country have the issue. It's got some seriously messed up defaults for region for some reason, basically unplayable until you fix it...yet I figured it out easy enough, and super glad I did as I was about to refund it.

change keyboard options to English US not English Canada the bindings are different for some reason.
