Frustrated with Simmons (Leon's campaign)

So I'm in Leon's campaign on Chapter 5 fighting Simmons. I'm fresh out of ammo, and the only functional weapon I have left is the knife. For some reason, the game doesn't let me pick up any ammo either.

Now, once I get to the rooftop where Simmons is in the form of a giant fly, there is basically no way at all to get past it. I've tried incendiary grenades and remote bombs as well, and they don't do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I also tried Infinite Ammo, which sadly didn't work. After a quick Google search, I found out that Infinite Ammo is only unlocked once you beat all four of the campaigns.

Is there anything at all I can do to beat Leon's campaign now? Or should I call it quits and start on another one?

Are you aware that you have inventory?

These fights all have proper game design and spawn endless peasant enemies to kill, which drop ammo. Throw stuff out of your inventory to be able to pick up ammo.

You must nail in a monster the electric post that is over the ground. Just carry it and nail any walking monster.

Next the giant fly will try to hit you with her "legs". Try to make it hit the nailed monster. After that an electric shock will uncover the vulnerable parts of the giant fly. Now you can shoot at the joint parts of the legs and so (the bright orange parts).

Repeat until you destroy all fly parts.

Next you must mount the fly (when she fall down near you get close enought and press the fire key without aiming to do a physical attack) and follow the sequence of key pressing (pay good attention here and don't make mistakes) until you eventually kill it.

Try to make the less mistakes as possible, failing doing that will force you repeat the sequences.

That wasn't the part I was having trouble with, though. It was the one where you're in the cart thingamajig, immediately before the one you described, I think. Either way, I dropped off some useless stuff and cleared some inventory space - that got me through the boss.
