Game won't launch at all (Win 8)
Hello,

I've been scouring Steam & the internet in general for a solution to this since it seems a lot of people have start-up/freezing issues, but I haven't had much luck finding info on the game immediately closing out as soon as you launch it.

Basically whether I start the game from Steam or from the shortcut, a black window pops up like its going to start, then immediately closes out and I'm back to Steam/desktop (respectively). I can play games like RE5, RE Revelations, Dragon Age Inquisition, etc with no problems whatsoever -- this one just won't even launch/get me to the start-up screen >:-(

Here's my system info:

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 8.1
Version: 6.3.9600 Build 9600
System Type: x64-based PC
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.401 Mhz, 4 Core(s)
Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770
RAM: 16.0 GB

I've tried the following things so far with no luck:
  1. Log-in & leave GFWL open
  2. used Large Address Aware
  3. used installers that came with game
  4. ensured Windows Media Player up-to-date
  5. ensured Direct X up-to-date
  6. ensured video drivers are up-to-date
  7. ran RE6 Benchmark Tool & got perfect score
  8. uninstalled / reinstalled RE6
  9. deleted local content (via Steam)
  10. verified integrity of game cache (via Steam)
  11. ran Steam as Admin
  12. ran Steam in Win XP Compatibility mode

Is having a specific (outdated) version of WMP or Direct X necessary to run the game (i.e WMP 9)? Any ideas, help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've had the game for months & its frustrating that I still can't play it because none of the work-arounds/fixes seem to be for this particular issue.

1) RE6 doesn't use GFWL.
2) It can utilize WMP12 and DX9 files that come with DX11 / SDK.
3) Try unplugging all USB devices (gamepads) except for mouse / keyboard.
4) Try deleting the video config file.
5) Try to modify the video config file.
6) Be sure that in Nvidia control panel in "Adjust image settings with preview" it's set to "Let the 3D application decide".
7) Be sure that your audio drivers are updated and that you can play 5.1 channel .ogg files.
