Are there any essential mods?
Hi! I just bought this game on the PC and I'm wondering if there are any good mods that are more or less essential to the gameplay. Any tips, thoughts or recommendations are appreciated!

This one really elevated the gameplay / immersion for me:

“No Distance Icons And No Action Icons v4.0”
http://residentevilmodding.boards.net/thread/102/distance-icons-action-v4

You still get a notification for the action moves,
but only the mouse icon will appear.

And if you are lost without the Distance Icons,
just press the "Disaply Route Guide" located under Q
which reveals the shorter range waypoints.

Disabling the “Distance Icons”, should of course be an available option in the game.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if Capcom will eventually give us that option.
This game has only gotten better over time.
Luv the FOV option update (60-75 degrees) now accessible in the main menu!

Make sure to back up your files before replacing them!
And I have no idea what happens when you use this mod in multiplayer.

If you want to combine mods and multiplayer,
I recommend you take a look at “fluffy manager 5000”.

Thank you for your comment! Is Fluffy Manager 5000 "THE" mod manager, or are there others too? I'll definitely check out the above mod you suggested. As a matter of fact, I've been trying to disable the icons myself ingame, but obviously without luck.

Are there any other graphic mods which might be worth using? Some textures are really low in quality and I know there's a HD texture mod for Resident Evil 4.

Textures?
In Resi6?
Do you have some kind of 4K Alienware machine?

For us average Joe’s’...
textures are the least of your troubles in this one!
: }

Besides the Distance Icons, I also disabled the music.
It’s just way too bombastic and ill-suited for most scenes.
It really took me out of the “experience”.
I might go hunting for an audio mod.

But for now,
having a lot of trouble finishing this game.
I’m beginning to understand the hate now.

(In the rare case you indeed have some kind of NASA computer,
you can look for an Graphical Enhancement Suite.
For instance I used SweetFX for Far Cry 2,
which made it look very beautiful
(at a tremendous performance cost though!)

Have you by any chance found some other "essiantal mods"?

Yeah, there seems to be some SweetFX mod for RE6 too. No, my computer is from 2008 with some upgraded parts. No NASA, sadly. Perhaps I should say the textures are very uneven. The textures on clothes, faces, guns are examples of good textures. No complains there. However, if you look at certain walls, specifically in some dark dungeon sort of thing, you can see what I mean.

By the way, how come you now see the hatred for the game? Just curious.

Have to disagree there. You don't need any kind of 4K gaming rig with GTX 980 Ti or anything like that to appreciate the fact that this game could use some improved textures/graphics.

The graphics are "ok" but they're nothing great, even considering when it was released. I think RE5 actually is more graphically demanding than 6.

Truth is it was designed for consoles which couldn't do any better anyway. It doesn't look bad on PC per se, but it's nothing special either.

OTOH the game runs very well even on old/low-end hardware--60FPS @ 1080p, all options on/maxed, doesn't require much.

I hear what you're saying. I played RE5 on PS3 a couple of years ago. Perhaps I should give it a try after RE6. Not for the graphics but for the game, of course. This might be a little of topic but still interesting.

Out of curiousity, might I ask why you've started to see the hatred for RE6?

You don't need a good card to be able to utilize better texture quality.
Even a 750Ti would be able to handle a texture mod easily. Doesn't seem like he knows what he's talking about.

Also, to each his own. The game has a fantastic 4 CD soundtrack that I wouldn't recommend muting.

5 has more consistent texture quality while having really poor lighting + heavy filter to compensate that.
6 has less consistent quality at some points yet gorgeous world and character lighting and reflections.

Currently the new 5 port has worse optimization than before.

Indeed!
I can confirm.
Nothing wrong with the optimization of Resi6.
On my rig it needs 1 to 2 minutes to “stabilize”.
After that, I get a steady 120 fps @ 1920x1080!
Got to luv that!

I can imagine that this great optimization would invite owners of harcore gaming rigs
to play at a 4K resolution = 4096 x 2160 pixels.
And as you might know, some things become very apparent at 4K…

I consider the textures, the graphics,
let’s say; the looks of this game, as good enough for max 1080p.
And definitely the least of your “troubles”,
because there are others aspects, mostly related to content and gameplay mechanics,
which are just FREAKING GAME-BREAKING!
The “low” textures you guys are talking about, don’t even register (with me)…

Resident Evil has never been about the “looks”.
It was the off-beat survival horror experience that did it for me,
But things have changed in the resi universe…
And what really hurts,
is that there are these moments of sheer brilliance!
Little teasers of how incredible good Resi6 could have been.
Although very few and far in between,
they gave me the best resi feels ever.

Hope this makes sense.

The revelations games are more geared towards RE fans that still want the puzzle/horror aspect of the RE universe.

Yeah, I've got the first Revelations for Wii U and the second for PS4. I really do enjoy them.

This game is pretty easy to run.I have the Gtx 660 on 1080p and i get consistently 120 fps :D
