I am old gamer in my 40's and not particularly judgmental. I don't make comparisons because I think the game try to do something different because if you keep doing the same thing, it becomes stale.
I remember playing through it and found myself enjoying it a lot and just confused why people were so hot headed over it.
If you enjoyed it, that's all that matters!
Resident Evil 5 and 6 both received mass hate from fans due to not being the exact same games as what came before. RE fans seem to prefer that their entire series would remain identical throughout instead of trying new things and changing between entries to keep things fresh.
Plus ı think this game is better than re7 and reimaginings. I dont really understand why this game is considered as the worst or one of the worst.
I think it's one of the best.
If it ain't broken, don't fix it. RE4 is about as action-oriented as a RE game should get; it was just about perfect. 5 had clunky controls with a retarded AI partner who kept on dying. 6 had OK control with TOO MUCH action and a semi-retarded AI who wouldn't shoot at a zombie 5 feet away even when commanded to.
I haven't played 0, original remake, 2 and 3 remake yet. For now, RE Rev and RE4 remain as my favourite RE titles.
As for re6; it has better controls than other re games. Partner aı is better than re5's aı too.
I miss the cool combat moves when playing the other games, even if they aren't that useful. I hope they'd make a game with an improved version of RE6's combat, it wouldn't have even to be a RE game. They already started Devil May Cry like that, so why not another series...
No wonder they screwed up the franchise with paranormal hazard 7 and non-canon reimaginings...
I tried that game and thought ı could like it since ı liked re6 which is also a controversial game just like that reboot and apparently both games were released at similar time but no. It's trash unlike re6 which is good and imo better than re4, re5, rerev, re7, reimaginings as well as all spinoffs excluding outbreak games. I dont take people who say " Re6 is the worst re game. " seriously.
I'm not a big fan of the removal of lock on; it makes combat such a chore in some areas. Not to mention some of the attacks like stinger are " Forward + forward attack " instead of " Lock on + forward attack " which doesnt feel comfortable to do. The combat system isnt as good as the ones in dmc1 / dmc3 / dmc4 / dmc5 either; it feels like the depth is removed from it when compared to those games despite some small improvements here and there. The thing that feels the most annoying to me is the angel / demon system; ı prefer weapon switching in other games instead of holding l1 / r1 to use another type of weapon. Thankfully guns arent affected by this but other melee weapons other than rebellion are and ı wasnt a fan of this. I dont like the l2 / r2 dodge system either; classic dmc dodge system is better and feels more comfortable. Colored enemies are another thing ı dont like; ı honestly dont think they should had appeared in the game.
Apparently the definitive edition improves the game but for some reason; it isnt available on pc so ı cant comment how much the game feels improved with that version.
Even the " Why re6 is awesome. " video talks about this.
but then again i started from re4, so i can understand the hate of the veterans.
I just wonder if the haters had any friend to play with. Because this is way less fun, even a little boring without a friend.
Yeah; the qte amount in re6 is unnecessary though ı still prefer re6's qtes over re4 and re5's cause they are more easier to perform, some of them can be disabled and there's a skill that makes qtes even more easier.
It's a shame; ı thought the story was good in this game. Characters are likeable ( Though helena is still an expy of angela. ) , campaigns connect to each other ( unlike re2 2019 ) , good character development, underrated villains, nice backstory within the files etc.
Too bad most people are obsessed with the survival horror aspect of the franchise and nothing more.
as well, it would have recieved criticism for stagnation HAD they kept the horror exclusive aspect. they already were being criticised for sticking with the Fixed Camera Tank Control scheme that they used in just about every game prior to RE Remake and Zero.
that being said, horror themes that are well done, even in an action oriented setting, can work to great effect. look at games such as FEAR and Dead Space. both fairly action oriented, but with horror themes that can succeed in scaring the player, but not bore them in repeat playthroughs, keeping that action style that can maintain longevity.
it's like an RPG that has more talking than actual gameplay. even if you did like the story, would you really go back to that? no, you would find something with more interactivity to replay. horror games do not offer that longevity, that sense of "maybe i want to play this again in a few weeks, that was fun".
and fighting Ustanak as Leon, you have absolutely no idea what the thing is. you only learn about it again two campaigns later when you evade it as Jake.
there's probably more, but these are what stand out the most to me personally.
