Annoying lag at high population

Hey, I have this problem where after hitting a high population (in this case just over 470 townies total, no heroes) the game starts to freeze every half a second for half a second. I also had it before on my previous machine after hitting around 300.

Is there a solution to it, or did I hit the limit on how many townies I can have with my HW?

It is an issue with newer operating systems.
The game does not support anything newer than what is listed on the store page.
This problem is mostly due to newer versions of java,
I wouldn't recommend trying to fix the problem, it isn't worth it.
