Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Constantly crashing on start, cannot even get past the "Press any key"
Te title says it all.
Sound keeps playing, tho.
Tried:
- Changing GPU drivers (older, newer, no difference)
- Starting as admin, both game exe and Ubisoft Connect
- Limiting my paging file
- Changing Windowedmode to 1, 2, 3 - nothing
- disabled overlay and cloud backups in Ubisoft Connect

Paid good money for the game, would like to be able to play it.

Any suggestions?

For anyone still struggling like me, here is what did it for me:

1. Deleted the annoying intro videos from \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Assassin's Creed Valhalla\videos
ANVIL_Logo
PC_AMD_Ryzen
UbisoftLogo
and from (in my case)
\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Assassin's Creed Valhalla\videos\en
Epilepsy
PC_WarningSaving
warning_disclaimer

2. Set the game to run in Windowed mode.
This you do in ACValhalla.ini, in your Documents\Assassin's Creed Valhalla
by setting the
WindowMode=0
and also, very important, (for full HD for example)
WindowPosX=0
WindowPosY=0
FullscreenWidth=1920
FullscreenHeight=1080
WindowedWidth=1920
WindowedHeight=1080
WindowMaximised=0
You can set your own "full screen resolution" here, like 1024x768, or whatever.

3. Set the ACValhalla.exe to run in Windows 8 compatibility mode, and run as admin.

I tried this early on, but it did not do it for me at first until I also did the steps 1 and 2.

Took me a while, but now it runs.

What also helps if your game crashes while playing is to (as many people here have already explained) set your paging file to run on an SSD, and limit the min/max size to

Initial size: whatever Windows says is recommended for you
Maximum size: your RAM size in GB times 1024 (like if you have 16 Gig of RAM, then 16*1024=16384)

"Took me a while, but now it runs."

Aaaaaaaaaaand here we go again.
Spoken too soon.
30 minutes into the game - freeze and crash, and back to the old "freezes and crashes at Press any key".
Funny thing, if I leave it and do not press enything - still crashes.
I really do not understand what the issue is.
Oddisey and Control play like a charm, I can even play Cyberpunk with no issues, however this one - just very very frustrating.

Thx, but I tried all of that already, as it says in my first post:
- Changing Windowedmode to 1, 2, 3 - nothing
I tried many different combinations in the ini, nothing helps.

This game will never be fixed, it's been like this for a lot of people, myself included.

Hello everyone.

Sorry to hear that Assassin's Creed Valhalla is crashing on your PCs.

Please try all the steps from our PC troubleshooting guide:
Troubleshooting technical issues on PC[www.ubisoft.com]

Make sure you update not only your graphics card drivers but also check for ALL available updates to your motherboard on the manufacturer's website.

Disconnect any additional USB devices, other than mouse and keyboard for testing purposes (any USB hubs, headsets etc).

Disable ALL 3rd party, unnecessary applications running in the background, especially 3rd party overlays like GeForce Experience, Overwolf and Discord.
Disabling background applications on PC[www.ubisoft.com]

If nothing of the above helps you, please generate diagnostic files from your PCs and attach them to a support ticket for analysis:
Generating DxDiag and MsInfo system reports[www.ubisoft.com]

Also, please include the Ubisoft Connect logs that can be found in the Ubisoft Connect installation path, in the Logs folder - launcher_log, network_info and service_log.
The default path would be:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\Logs
