nvlddmkm error crash to desktop
In the weekend of November 16th I played without any problems. Then I went away for a week, and when came back on november 23rd, AC Valhalla got some kind of Steam update. Nothing else changed on my PC (Windows 10). No automatic updates or anything, yet from that moment the game started crashing every 5-10 minutes, without error messages, becoming unplayable.

I searched the web and found out about the infamous "nvlddmkm error", so I checked the Windows Event Viewer and that was exactly what was happening.
I did many checks, following the various posts I found online: I updated the Nvidia drivers, changing from Game Ready to Studio, I disabled the Ubisoft overlays, set offline mode, clear caches... nothing worked.

Has a definitive solution for this issue ever been found?

Hi AlanCadeyrn, thanks for reaching out.

I am sorry that you've started experiencing game crashes after not playing the game for a week.

Do you mind sharing a screenshot of this error message?

Can you please try some troubleshooting steps for me?:

Run the Windows system file checker which finds and repairs issues with some core Windows files >

a) press the Windows key + s
b) search for the command prompt and right click on it and run as administrator
c) type the following command as it appears sfc/scannow
d) press enter and wait for the tool to check the system files, this might take a little while
e) after completion close the tool and try to launch the game

Let us know if it helps.

I tried as you said, but the game still crashes after 10/15 minutes of playing. There is no error message, so I can't provide a screenshot, but this is the error that I get in the Event Viewer:

The description for Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Video3
Error occurred on GPUID: 100

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table

Hi, this is a KNOWN issue, posted by Microsoft themselves recently. When will Ubisoft fix this please?

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2#3448msgdesc

"After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with the games listed below. These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen. The affected games are:

Assassin's Creed Valhalla
Assassin's Creed Origins
Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Next steps: Microsoft is working with partner companies to address this issue and will update this documentation once a resolution is available. "

This has been ongoing for years. Ubisoft has publicly stated they will not be fixing this issue.

...except I have windows 10 and not windows 11, so I cannot be 100% sure it's the same issue.

Can you please provide the source of this info? If it is as you say, then this is another level of problem.
