char level, power, enemy scaling...
Quests and regions are labeled with power levels to show the player how difficult those places are when not properly equiped.
Those power levels are solely based on spent skill points.

After some exploration my power level was higher than the current region and I stopped spending skill points to not be to powerful. I still upgraded my gear though.
When starting exploration in 90 region, I thought to do the Wrath of the Druids DLC since it is labeld as 55 and I was already at level 90.

After arriving in Ireland I noticed all enemies have red dots next to them, which I believe means they are of higher level than my character.
A lot of them I cannot one-shot with a head shot and cannot insta assassinate if I wouldn't have this mini-game perk to add additional damage to the backstab.
So I spent more skill points and leveled from 90 to 159 (yes i had >70 unspent skill points). Things became a little bit easier.

Then I upgraded some of my gear to gold / mythical.
And now normal enemies have a red skull next to them.
I can still handle them but I am concerned about the challenges when I have to fight stronger enemies.

So I am in a 55 region with level 159 with some mythical gear and enemies are shown as 'deadly'.
Are enemies more difficult because of my gear?
How should I spend points / upgrade gear, to match the intended level of the region?

There's autoscaling with the game difficulty, Aesyr being the toughest it will always spawn enemies 60 levels above yours, so it turns everything into a red dot.

So the common 'trash mob' in Wrath of the Druids is supposed to be higher level, no matter of my own level?

Yes seems like it.
Can confirm this for "The Siege of Paris". Im level 420+ and the "trash mob" is still a higher level. Heard about upscaling for Riverquests as well.

That's why scaling is NEVER a good idea.
Just put mobs with levels unrelated to player.

Okay...
The game considers the earned point for NPC scaling and not the points spent.

I had spent 159 points and had additional 70 unspent points. All enemies had the red skull next to their bar. I took me 10 heavy attacks to kill a dog lol.

Then I spent the rest of my points and all enemies are super easy now.

I think wolves from Ireland are buffed by their druids, and can shift forms when in the fog. Only met them in river raids so far I havent yet tackled the DLC.

If enemies are too easy you can increase scaling.
