Game Crashes Synchronizing Achievements to the Cloud
Sometimes in the middle of my game, the screen will freeze, then the game dumps and goes to my desktop with "Synchronizing achievements to the cloud" showing. First of all, I always thought this happened at the beginning or end of a play session, not during the game. Is there any way to turn this off? Thanks in advance!

I get something similar... no clue how to fix

Luckily for me, I "save early, save often," so I'm never more than a few minutes behind when reloading. Still, it's rather annoying, and I'll pull my hair out if it happens after spending several minutes in a "no save" zone . . .

When you exit the game Ubisoft Connect should still be running in the system tray. At least it does for me (I always have to close it manually after a session).

Right click the tray icon and go to settings. Under "General" settings uncheck "Enable cloud save synchronization for supported games". I am pretty sure this will disable the achievement sync as well.

Also: apparently the most recent version of Ubi Connect has a memory leak in the Overlay feature, which can lead to crashing if it exceeds the system's available memory. This issue affects all Ubi Connect games, not just AC Valhalla. Atm I have the overlay disabled and it seems to have avoided any crashing...for now at least.

Thanks for the info! I had the Steam cloud disable but not the Ubisoft cloud. Hopefully this fixes the problem for good . . .

Nope, it's still doing it. I'll check the settings again.

Sorry to hear that hasn't fixed it yet. Do you have the overlay in Ubisoft Connect enabled or disabled?

The only other thing I've read that seemed to help some AC Valhalla owners with crashing was going into Documents > Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and deleting the "cache" directory (while the game is not running ofc), then letting the game recreate it. Some (on reddit) have claimed that doing this every few hours prevents crashing via memory leaks but this solution is anecdotal ofc.

I disabled the overlay too. Maybe I'll do a Google search and look for solutions. I delete the cache files for Sims 3 every time I play because I have many mods installed. No mods installed for Valhalla (yet).

I have the exact same problem, can you please post the solution here if you find any

I looked at the files in the cache directory, but I'm not sure which ones to delete. Some are dat files while others are library . . .

Just do as LiquidFoo explained, and disable Ubisoft ingame overlay and post game summaries as well. It will only synchronize Ubi achievements at start and when closing without notifying during gameplay with the overlay, which crashes Ubi Connect and then the game.

If you really want to deactivate achievements you can start the game offline, there's other posts around here describing how to do that you can search here.

It's hard to say whether the cloud sync has anything to do with the crash or not. The cloud sync could be unrelated to the crash and could just be occurring after the crash/games stops (as that what it's supposed to do after the game closes).

On a side note Ubisoft has just closed all it's support forums on the web and moved everything to their official Discord, so OP could check there and see if there's any help to be found.

I did see they have the option in the Ubi Connect client to opt into a client beta. I tried to find some patch notes for it (to see if that beta had fixed any memory leak issues with the overlay) but came up empty.

Try to run the Ubisoft Connect client *before* you start the game from Steam - that fixed my issues I had with Ubisoft Connect (it would fail to sync after each gaming session and log me off).

Reading through these posts, I'm still confused, as there are no achievements in ACV, so nothing to save or lose, did you mean something else?

There are no _Steam_ achievements. If you were to go into your games library in the Ubi Connect launcher > select ACV > under the play button you can see there's a small list just below (Overview, Challenges, Rewards, Statistics...Achievements...).

I've never gone into the launcher for anything, never had to, so I was unaware of it being anything else but a conduit between systems; it's too bad players don't have the same experience that I have had with ACV, no crashes, no issues. Best of luck finding a solution.
