Who cares?

Since you need to use Ubi Connect ANYWAY....

Of course not why would they sell it and get a 30% fee when they can sell it and get no fee. Uplay is a very successful gamestore. Losing a very few sales that they can pick up years from now mostly is not a big deal. People have to use UPLay to run Ubisoft games anyway. They will never get a Steam launcher only play with this game.

I'm not particularly excited for it anyway. I'll wait and maybe buy it around 75% off in three or four years, if at all.

It's pretty weird how beholden some people are to steam as a platform.

A lot of it really is a nexus of factors, for me anyway. I like having one, easily navigable library. I like that is has, what I consider, reasonable prices and a very good selection of games to choose from. They are stable and I don't think they're going anywhere. I like having my credit card information as few places as possible, picking one place I trust, beats having several, even if I trusted them all.

Because of these reasons, and probably more, yeah, I stick with Steam and I have very little interest in other platforms.

Preferring steam as a convenient gaming library and market solution isn't the same thing as having rage-fueled meltdowns about a publisher withholding titles from the platform.

Ah, with this, I agree. Carry on!

If they make it the way the old assassins creed games were made which is how AC was always supposed to be, then it will be way better than the generic action RPG's they have MUTATED the series into in recent games. Doesn't mean they will but the intent gives me more hope than any AC game released since Origins. The recent games are mostly decent action RPG's, but this series hasn't released an actual Assassins Creed game since Syndicate. And IMO you haven't really played as what I would typically regard as an assassin character, since AC2, even AC1. You are just a soldier/warrior, tank class masquerading as an "assassin".

YMMV. I didn't much care for OG AC, neither the gameplay, nor the narrative. What drew me to the series were the assassinations and the historical settings. Some aspects of the stealth and assassination gameloop, were okay-ish, but never good. So, I gave up on that rather early on. The other aspect, the historical setting, is usually pretty interesting. Even with liberties they take. Usually.

I can see how the past three (Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla) almost seem a different franchise than the earlier installments. I'd toss Black Flag in there with "pretty divergent from the OG AC." Other than AC 1 and, I think Brotherhood. I haven't finished any AC games. I don't care about the story, and the gameplay loops kinda suck usually. Origins and Odyssey, I gave up on, largely because of life events and an aging computer that couldn't run them very well. I will endeavor to go back and try to play them after Valhalla and several games in my backlog. But it may never happen. Anyway, I like Black Flag and this latest trilogy substantially better than AC 1, Brotherhood, and whatever the American Revolutionary War was. I think that comes down to better settings and more open ended gameplay.

Valhalla surprisingly still has my interest in the story. I was not expecting that. But I may get distracted by my long diversions doing random running around in my limited time to play.

Suffice it to say, I like new AC much better than old AC.

I get it where some may long for old AC. I do think it was very different from contemporary iterations. If they can swing back more toward assassinations, stealth, parkour, and the investigations...and make them significantly better than they used to be. I'd be interested. But in my view, AC was never good enough at being an assassin game. So, I don't care about "returning to the roots." The roots suck, IMO. I also can't help but wonder if some fans are seeing through rose tinted glasses when calling for a return to form, but, I don't know their minds.

It's a clever strategy. A lot of people will buy the game a second time when it comes to Steam, even though it makes absolutely no sense since it requires UbiSoft Connect anyway.
Tons of people rebuy the game on Steam to complete their collections on Steam or just because it somehow feels good for them to have a copy on here as well.
If I were Ubi, I would exploit this customer stupidity as well. Moar sales is moar better. Simple as that...

assassin's creed mirage isn't being released tell 2023
Weltall8000 Dec 15, 2022 @ 11:13pm
I'd note I gave several reasons why I stick to Steam. You may weigh things differently, but they are legitimate reasons nonetheless.

"Stupid?" I got the game cheap and I wasn't going to buy it earlier anyway.

Do you have official numbers for these "a lot of people" and "tons of people" ? Thanks
