thats what was said not that they think u dont own the game but
they are also right that u technically dont own ur games even on steam since all games are licenses u own even physical copies techinically is just a license that u can also sell since its a physical copy
with what they did with the crew 1, I don't care that the original context meant cloud gaming, what ubisoft did wasn't take an always online game down so you cant play it anymore, they didn't end online servers so the online portion is gone, they didn't give you a limited time to access the game that was told to you up front, they revoked the keys, even if they made an offline patch, you no longer have a key to own the game, not you have a key that expired, they removed your key entirely.
I am ok with games going away because they were always online
i'm ok with online portions of games not always being there, as ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ as that is because we use to be given server software to run our own servers or lan into eachothers game, im kinda ok with it
i'm ok with renting a service to play a game
and i'm ok with not owning a game indefinitely,
i'm not ok with have having a key stolen from me
now, on op's question, I will personally never buy another ubisoft game, if a bundle comes around that lets me donate Ubisoft's portion of the profit to charity, I will get some of their games, but they will never be directly paid from me again, just to give you context for what I am about to say.
shadows development is an absolute dumpster fire, the in game tailor they put out has so many glitches and screw ups that isn't a 10 second point in time where you cant see multiple. they cant even put a trailer together in a way that hides the technical problems, along with the normal ubisoft 'their games aren't worth anything so in half a year they are 75% off' crap they normally go through, but it may be accelerated this time because ubisoft is doing so bad as a company right now they are putting it on steam day 1. in all honestly ubisoft is likely not going to exist as a company for much longer due to gross mismanagement, so I kinda expect they will fire sale everything to get numbers up in a desperate attempt to not be forced to sell, or as a complete ♥♥♥♥ you to the people who are trying to force a sale.
no matter what you choose, I wouldn't buy day one because this will likely go on a major sale before you even finish it, and this is without talking about any of the more controversial stuff in the game from a political (ubisoft hasn't confirmed it and all we know is from disgruntled employees but the game was completely reworked in 2020 after 5 years of development, yea thats a red flag its been in development for almost 10 years in and of itself, for political reasons at the time) angle.
essentially
ubisoft may not exist in a few years as it currently is
the game is a technical ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ where they cant hide it
the game has baggage that is going to drag sales
its going steam day 1
all 4 of those things just scream the game is going to be used to get the most short term money possible.
if you want the game, id 100% wait for a sale at the very least, personally, I would be waiting for a 50-75% off sale which will honestly, given the ♥♥♥♥ they are in, happens within a year, but because its ubisoft, I would wait till its in a bundle where I don't have to give them a dime.
Steam generally has strong consumer protection and game libraries typically remain accessible even if games are delisted. In case of server-dependent games shutting down, single-player modes or offline features can still work.
As a workaround, people can back up game files or use features like Steam's "Offline Mode" to preserve access to purchased titles, minimizing reliance on online services.
If it is full online game (The crew 2, need for speed) I personally would try to avoid those kind of games. Ubisoft has confirmed that both The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest will receive an offline mode soon, allowing us to continue playing even if the servers go offline. Because of this I got the game at last sale for 0,99€.
Said this, my advice is that if you like the game, get the game. I would not think on support them or not, I would thing on what I like, what I do not like, and if deserve the money they ask for the entertainment it will give me, at full price, or at sale. At the end you pay for a service, if you get what you want, and you know what to expect from the game, it should be ok.
Game looks spectacular. Personally I liked Nio.be's gameplay, but highly disliked some things (as you know from the other thread). I will not get it at launch (specially after see what happened with sw outlaws), and probably I will never get it, even on sale, but that's me. I probably will get Mirage on Steam instead.
Good luck, hope you enjoy it if you finally go for the game.
Atlus has done this, and I am going to get their game cause of it. There is no reason a AAA game company shouldn't be able to release a demo between now and February.

Not now. I pre-purchased on Epic, because UbiSoft forces my store in German although the app and my account are in English. They just cancelled my pre-purchase, and I am no longer able to pre-purchase on Epic. Bad enough that it is not available on Steam.
So, screw UbiSoft.
Mister you think you are so smart. I read that ♥♥♥♥ back with Skyrim. We have NEVER owned another game or even a license, since the advent of paying for this ♥♥♥♥ online. Anyone who doesn't understand that is a moron.
Always read the agreement.
They can revoke your right to play their game anytime they feel like it.
That said, UbiSoft have ruined their reputation by deleting accounts for not logging in regularly, and taking games away randomly? Bad form. They can do it, legally. However, people do not have to trust them or invest any more money in their games.
