30fps cutscenes?
First off, I don't own this game on steam (maybe I will....if I can figure out the issues). I'm playing it on Xbox PC Game Pass. I've only played a little bit, but I noticed that at the very start of the game (female voice telling story of Ymir - floaty white specks on screen) it was running at 31fps and my gpu was only using 10watts (245watt card). After that short intro (once I got into the game as the little boy at the party) everything went smooth. 60fps (playing at 4k/ultra) with no stutters or anything. But once the first cutscene started (when attacked), framerate dropped to 31fps again, with gpu power dropping again to 10-11watts....

I googled it right away and found numerous threads about how cutscenes are capped at 30. For me they are playing at 31, and tha tmakes it look a lot worse than if it were 30 (30fps looks fine on my tv, esp with interpolation, but 31 looks awfully stutter-y). I was about to give up since I saw so many threads talking about it. But I decided to come here and see what people had to say about it. To my surprise, no one mentioned it. I searched the forum and found nothing.

Is this another case of Xbox Game Pass having a different/older version of the game? Are the cutscenes not capped at 30 (or 31...) fps in the steam version?

The cutscene at the start with a seer talking about Ymir is completely prerendered, that means it is just a video, that's why it doesn't run above the framerate it was recorded at.

There are less of those as the game goes so don't worry about it.

Yes, I realized they were pre-rendered. Which is why, at first, I thought maybe it was the power-saving 'feature' of my 4070 Super (which I CANNOT disable...) that drops the card into PCIe 1.1 mode whenever not in a 3D application (or, in actuality, seemingly whenever it feels like it). I tought this due to the drop in power from 100-200watts right down to 10-11watts (while still saying 25% gpu usage) during those 31fps scenes.

Anyway, I played a bit more and more cutscenes followed that were actually rendered in real-time and looked great (@ a solid 60fps). Maybe I should have waited before posting... but, like I said, I still noticed a large number of threads dedicated to the 30fps cutscene "issue"... Hopefully there aren't many more of them. That first one was pretty important....from the initial raid from 'whateverhisnamewas the cruel' up til the boy being attacked by wolves... so I'd hate to have several hours of important game footage showin in a choppy 31fps.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the stupid post. I was just a little surprised that nothing was mentioned on Steam after seeing so many posts on reddit, etc. Thought it was a bigger deal than it is, apparently.

A few of the cutscenes are actually WebM movies and you can find then in the videos folder and play them however the soundtrack is separate. They are mainly Leonidas and flashbacks to childhood

I turned the Leonidas ones (plus a little gameplay) into a mini movie
