HIstoric fact. Vikings never had dreadlocks
This white lady historian debunks myth about Vikings having dreadlocks. Timestamped to save you time and skip to section she explains it.

I saw this recent vid having being recommended. And as you can attest, it's Hollywood inaccuracy from the 80s.

When did it take off?

As film makers saw how cool dreads where on black folks having being popularised by Bob Marley, Whoopi and the likes.

Dreadlocks are 100% African origin. Never did Vikings or Celtics have them.

Many of media you consume isn't accurate.

Thanks, sick of the whining about Shadows.

And now they are complaining about GoW Ragnarok.

I think it had to do with the PSN requirement, which they do not clearly understand.

There are many who do not like the Ubisoft login.

I played both games, completely different gameplay and timelines.

2 different things.

One is widely misunderstood, the other is a console online system that's been in use for a very long time.

Excatly/

If one can put up with dreadlocks which are African hairstyle on Vikings. Then why can't have black character and assume he is real samurai?

It's actually interactions with real historic figures that defines AC games, not the actual protagonist. Altair was generic, Conor was disliked for being boring and sulky etc.

Long time ago, 2 games had black characters as the protagonist. Aveline in Liberation & Adewale in Black Flag Freedom Cry.
Neither were real historical people nor did they have dreadlocks.

The Animus has the power to add things that didn't exist back then.

Ad Hominem Circumstantial.

You can't prove her claims incorrect, so you divert to her beliefs instead.

Rather worthless comment really.

A cursory google search refutes her claims. They're not explicitly stated as "dreadlocks" but the hairstyles are very similar "ropelike" appearance as claimed by the ancient romans and pretty much anyone else that survived encounters with vikings.

Indeed, are you aware of what a rope looks like? It looks like a braid.

Yeah , naah.

Even backed up by Scandinavians that their ancestors more than likely didn't have dreadlocks.

I don't know what types of dreads you are referring to but the dreads we are talking about are not braided. They usually are twisting so the hair is caught on itself and hold itself together and matte

The thing that could lead to a Viking having locks would be messy hair and sailing on the sea and not maintaining it.

However as sources say they utilize combs constantly. It doesn't help that media portrays them as more savage looking.

And you can't prove her claims correct. You just assume she's right because it's what you want to hear.
