however, there are of course solid open world games from other studios out there. Watch Dogs 2 is great and Valhalla is not bad either.
Valhalla looks slightly worse, but runs very well and controls are excellent. Action is more varied, lots of combat, lots of puzzle stuff in side content, and everything you do upgrades your character or your settlement.
They both share some similarities, like most side quests are being replaced with world events so your quest log is always short, there's a focus on building your town and have interaction with your crew. Missions are told through story arcs.
If you're interested in viking stuff I suggest playing Valhalla. For cowboy stuff RDR.
I would absolutely love to play GoT if it ever comes to PC.
AC valhalla does many things right that previous ac games have done alredy, just new and maybe more polished, it actually does some things better. Just as an example, the shantys in Black flag were a pain, i didnt bother. But the notes you gonna catch here are way smoother to follow AND they give you a better reward imho.
Ofc the AI doesnt really compete with red dead redemptions AI, i would say anyway RDR2 beats many games in many cases. But you really have to like western, if you dont like western at all safe your money.
Valhalla has also great storys and side quests, not as dynamic or "alive" as Rdr2 in my opinion but its one of the better ac games actually. imho. And it brings tons of new, creative stuff. Ubisoft can still surprise.
(NB, I use an XBox One controller. Playing a game like this on controller is non negotiable for me.) I HATE the controls in RDR2. They are awful. And I get it that there is supposed to be some weight and realism to it, but the controls blow ass. I do not have similar problems with controls on other "realistic" games, or any serious game that I can think of.
I also do not love cowboys and wild west settings particularly.
AC Valhalla easily has RDR2 beat on those counts.
Everything else, I say RDR2 stomps AC Valhalla on. Also, AC Valhalla randomly crashes a lot after departing the introductory area. So that is a knock against it too. The RPG elements are kinda middling and the upgrade systems in RDR2 are more immersive and gratifying to do, IMO.
Story. Hard to say as I have not completed or gotten very far with either, but RDR2 easily has me more interested. I care much more about the characters as well in RDR2 as opposed to AC.
If immersion is the major selling point especially, RDR2 really does it better.
Hard to say. I'd look toward the summer or winter sale. Also around when the next Assassin's Creed releases for Valhalla.
But for under $20 for either, if you're interested in them and the negatives about the games aren't too big of a deal, these are a lot of bang for the buck.
Summer sale is a pretty long time; I was just checking it wouldn't suddenly get discounted more right after the spring sale.
I got a lot of games on the spring sale, including Kingdom Come Deliverence, so I'm not exactly hankering for a big open-world game. I think I'll wait till the end of April when my current school term ends. Then, I'll be at my parent's house with my gaming PC and good internet 24/7, and I'll have plenty of free time. I've seen that both these games go on sale pretty regularly.
Valhalla would be great except for it's instability, which has been ignored since release. It's "broken" sorta
I was under the impression you were looking for something to tide you over for Legend of Zelda, and were looking for a big, open, immersive game. I mentioned those particular events in that those seem the most likely for a deeper price drop, if it is to occur (not that I necessarily think they will).
This price point, yeah, I wouldn't sweat it if you don't need something/these right now as they'll go on sale again, probably within a month, at most, the summer sale in three months.
