How intrusive is the whole thing? I have a low tolerance for those. Even Shadow of War, where it was patched out and replaced with the gems, was annoying and kind of ruined the game (tho it wasn't the only thing).

While online you have other players jormviking in each and every fluvial port. They're often fantasy themed with unicorn, molten lava armor, swords glowing like lightsabers or farting rainbows.
The ingame shop has an annoying talking head spewing the same line over and over when you enter your village.
Money is completely irrealist, with haircuts costing 100x more than provisions and arrows for your bow. Unlocking every cosmetic item is an insane grind.
