Unfortunately, this issue has existed for a long time, and it looks like Ubisoft is incapable of resolving it. All we can do save often, and pray.
My guess is it has something to do with a thrown error on a check on community goals (which get refreshed every week or so) which, since linked to the game instead of a parallel service, just closes the game. But that's pure speculation.
That said, if it's still an issue for over half a year, it's probably never getting a fix. It sucks, but it is what it is. Won't be the first game that had stuff like this go unpatched.
