Second play through problem.

When I started another game, it offered me the option of continuing with most of my stuff and levels, etc. I did that, and I thought I saved it, but I messed up. I started again, (they really need a way to skip the intro, so long) but still just level 1.
Is there a way to start an improved game?

It indeed doesn't. Ubisoft explicitly stated that there is no NG+ now or in the future. But you can of course always start a regular new game. When you do so, a few things are supposed to carry over (opals, things you bought with opals, Ubisoft Connect rewards, but not regular gear, weapons, or skill points). These details are second-hand information though, so I can't vouch that they are correct.

I am not aware of such a functionality, but I will give it a try soon. Will make a backup of my saves first, though. That shouldn't be necessary from what I'm reading (the new game is supposed to overwrite autosaves and quicksaves, but not manual saves), but better safe than sorry. :)

manual saves to persist,just auto and quick saves get overwriten. As for what you keep , you keep any weapons and gear that was included with your game pack or purchased from store,opals. You dont keep xp lvl or skills start at lvl1. To be honest you can at any time respec all skills and points and change tons of settings at any time in game so realy only if you want to change how you make decisions would be reason to restart. Not sure about sex changing mid game need to look it up. But even then well to do that well ya kinda need a fresh start.

Okay, I started a new game to check things. Here are the results:

- I didn't get any information that I could keep anything. The game simply informed me that starting a new game would overwrite my autosave, and asked for confirmation. I have not completed the main game's story yet, so can't tell if that's a factor here.

- All my manual saves are still intact and accessible. All 5 autosaves got overwritten (the game autosaves several times during the intro).

- I do not have access to any rewards from Ubisoft Connect. I would expect them to unlock automatically later (I only played until the "Eivor kills the slavers" cutscene.) When I go to Main Menu -> Store -> Owned, then my rewards are shown there, but I cannot currently equip any.

- I did have all my opals in my inventory

- I did not receive the torso or mount that I had bought with opals from Reda. They might unlock later too.

- I never bought anything with Helix Credits, so cannot tell if such purchases would be available or not.

- I started at level 1 with 0 skill points and no abilities.

- I completely agree with 6Taylor4 that the unskippable intro is way, way, way too long for a second playthrough.

Regarding radblue's open question: Sex change is possible at any point in time (after the intro) by going to Inventory -> Animus.

UPDATE: My curiosity got the better of me, and I kept playing until Fornburg. After talking to Valka (the seer), my rewards finally unlocked. This is also true for the gear and mount that I bought with opals.

As Assassin's Creed: Valhalla does not have a New Game Plus option, I'm afraid that it is not possible to carry over any progression including levels or regular gear while starting a new game. Any store purchases and store-unlocked items will remain, however, you'll need to reach England in order to equip them.

Simple google search. There's a new game + save you can edit and mod to work with 1.6.2 on the nexus. I dont use it as I am not interested by new game plus.
