Short sword locations?
So I'm not too far into the game yet but I recently found out that one handed short swords weren't in it... for some reason. Likely to coax someone like me who only likes one-handed swords into buying DLC for them so I purchased the Season Pass at 50% off and got The Legend of Beowulf, Wrath of the Druids, and Siege of Paris, which is the one I needed for short swords for $20. Now that I've purchased and downloaded all the DLC, where can I find a decent first short sword? My power is only 72 right now so I'm not very strong yet.

You don't need to buy any DLC in order to get a short sword.

There is a short sword on the Isle of Skye, which is the area that the free "A Fated Encounter" DLC takes place in. This free DLC is already activated in the basegame, you do not need to buy or explicitly activate anything. The Isle of Skye is a lvl 55 area that can be visited very early in the game - just go to England, build Valka's Hut, do the "In Dreams" quest for her, and then the quest "A Distorted Dream" should become available, which will take you to Skye.

Once you are on the Isle of Skye, go to Duntulm Camp at the northernmost point of the main island, find the two keys, open the locked chest, and you'll get the Hero's Sword.

You can probably also buy some short swords from Reda for opals that you have collected in the game, but you'd have to wait until one shows up in his daily or weekly selection. One more can be found in River Raids, which can also be started very early on, but it takes many raids to get to it. There are also short swords in the "Rewards" section of Ubisoft Connect, which you can buy with Ubisoft coins, which you can earn through Ubisoft Connect Challenges. Other short swords are in Francia, which is a lvl 200 area that indeed requires the "Siege of Paris" DLC.

The best short sword is the final award of hero's tombs. No requirements of fighting, no dlc needed, but you have to go through a few hours of brain hurt.

That sword is only useful if you fight with the "lock target" function on, though.

But you're right, that's another short sword that is available in the base game already. And it should be obtainable pretty soon after getting to England as well - you'll have to travel through several higher-level areas to get to the tombs, but you can avoid any fights. Still need to get to it myself. ;)

That lock-on feature works fine. The sword's long range attack have only five charge every 15 seconds, so you don't wanna waste it. When fighting normal enemies, you kill them without lock-on. When facing someone you want dead quick, you lock on and deal more than double damage and stun.

Yes, I just mentioned that because there are players like me, who have played thousands of games across 4 decades of gaming without ever using "lock on target" controls in even a single one. For me personally, the movement in a "locked target" situation feels highly counter-intuitive and I feel like I have to fight the control scheme, not the enemy, in order to just get into the position I want. If a game defaults to "locked target" controls, I always switch that off. If it can't be switched off, I play a different game that provides the controls that I prefer.

This is highly subjective of course, and I don't doubt that the sword is very powerful for someone who is used to controls in a "locked target" situation. I'm just pointing out that this isn't the case for everyone, and that the "best sword" will probably be another one for players that fall into this category.

That said, your description has made me curious (thanks for the detailed instructions on its usage!), so I'll definitely give it a go once I find it. :)
