knock puzzle bug in porta fisco *puzzle spoiler*
the first time the guy knocks, the sound makes a fast double-knock, instead of one. it should be one, and registered as 1 knock, but it made 2 fast knocking sound. it made me stumped for a while, till i realized the subtitle only show 1 knock, not 2.

in detail it goes like this: i knocked twice, then he sounds like he knocked twice, so i knocked 4, wrong.

i knocked one, still sounded like 2 knocks, i knocked 3, wrong, then i tried the same, but the second time i accidentally pushed 2 knocks, and i was confused, then i realized it is one reply knock instead of 2, so it goes 1+1 = 2 , 2-3=-1, doesnt work

tried 2 start knocks 2+1=3, 3-3 = 0 wrong too, but on the right track

and the solution is 3+1=4, 4-3=1, 1+4 = 5

so the problem is the first reply knock that should be one, but played as 2 knocks.

I literally just solved this puzzle... Had the same problem. Finding this post was the only way I was able to work it out :P

There was no sound for me in this minigame for some reason (no sounds when knocking), so I had no idea what was going on. Thanks for this!

Is there any point the game where it makes clear that the "extra" knocks are coming from inside? That makes no sense. In the previous hideout you just knocked, there was no interaction.

Thanks. I too had no sound for this puzzle. Only the subtitles that were too fast for me to count.

I dont get it because when you first get the the door you do not hear any knocking until you knock first, the problem is is how do you know how many times to knock for the fist one?

The first solution is not 3+1=4, If you knock three times it fails, if you knock once he only knocks back once or twice.. that does not equal 4, it equals 2 or 3 (since some say he knocks twice really fast, but either way it dose not equal 4).
What am I missing here?

Another thing to keep in mind is I turned subtitles off for the game - because it was weird listening to and reading the story at the same time. The knock sounds and especially the reply knock sounds are too quiet to hear unless you turn the volume up so high that speech is deafening.

Hi, this is indeed bent as a puzzle, however the logic is as follows.

No matter what you begin your knocking with the responding knock is always the same
1 knock, 3 knocks, 4 knocks

So the + - + is used on a continuing sum based your starting choice and the following responses i.e. +1, -3, +4. As you will find out if you do the sums it's impossible to succeed without at least 3 starting knocks and if you begin with more than 3 knocks you end up with more than the game allows. ALL... VERY... ANNOYING....

First round: 3 + 1 = 4
Second round 4 - 3 = 1
Third round 1 + 4 = 5

Less brainpower, more tedious pattern checking.

I had to google solution for this puzzle, because it's impossible to even realize that reply knocking exists
It's so quiet that I thought it's a background noises. And knocking subtitle flashes in a split second, you won't notise it. There is always something flashes on the screen
I had to brute force it to figure it out. After I found the solution was 3415, I dissected the puzzle to see the logic behind it. I believe the logic behind how many knocks the initial knocks needed was that there are 3 symbols on the note from Janosch; + - +

When you knock 3 times and enter it, Liebold replies with one knock. So, you add(+) 1 to your first number; 3+1 = 4. Now enter 4, and LIebold replies with 3 knocks. We now have, 34.

The next function is subtract according to the note; So, we subtract 3 knocks from 4, leaving us with 1. Liebold responds with 4 knocks this time. We now have 341.

Lastly, the final function from the note is addition(+ - +); We add 4 knocks to our previous number, 1, and we get 5; Now we have 3415 and the puzzle is complete.

The puzzle actually does make sense, even if it's convoluted. If you don't pick up on the clue that the note that Janosch gives you has 3 symbols on it, the only way to solve this puzzle is to brute force it. I went through all the combinations until I got to 34, then I saw what was going on, but, even then, I overlooked the response knocks of Liebold. I just always used the previous number in my calculations. 3415(assumed the previous number from 3 was 1); So, I had 3+1 = 4; 4-3 = 1; 4+1 = 5. It's similar to how a Fibonacci Sequence works.
I was so confused... even with the volume up it sounds like two knocks lol so I just kept getting it wrong lol. I managed to haphazardly get to the 3rd sequence but then I flubbed thinking the first number was 2 so it just never made sense.

I should do more knocks than him then less knocks than him then more?? Lol 😅

If only I'd known the first was definitely 1 it would have been Soooooooo much easier lol
