Broken character movement?

Hey there, I just downloaded the program since I wanted it for a long time now and the Midweek Madness-sale made me finally buy it.
However, when I quickly made a platform to stand on and started my project, my character walked to the right, not responding at all to the up and down buttons, and when I press the left arrow button, my character walks down for some reason.
Since they work in other games and software without any problems, I can be sure that there's nothing wrong with my arrow buttons.
Does someone have a solution for this? I read somewhere that unplugging all USB devices should fix the problem, but after two tries of un- and re-plugging, my character still walks to the right.

Reinstall RPG maker, update all usb drivers, disable/reenable USB drivers, restart PC. These are the only things that I know of that have helped others with this problem. Each was dependant on the situation for each person. They may or may not work for you.

A few times it has turned out to be a controller or joystick driver that needed attention.
