Android device?
Is it possible to use this program to make these 16bit-style rpg games and port to Android devices? Because that's where these games would really shine.

I'm not exactly a pro, with RPG maker, but it seems you need to install a specific RPG maker RTP in order to play the games on a device without rpgmaker vx ace installed, which is about 230mb. Even if you could port them to droid, the space they would take up would be a pretty big deal breaker..

We're currently testing an android exporter. Hope to have it available to the public in the next 3 months or so.

It's official. The devs are awesome. Just bought this software literally fifteen minutes ago, already having great fun with it.

Well I have to be honest, I did not expect this kind of response, lol. Thank you very much for your reply/info Mitchell. I'm going to say it first - the first RPG maker port to go on Play store for number 1 spot on the top downloaded list :D

Even though I could have expected it (porting it over to Android shouldn't exactly be impossible, considering most is done through Ruby anyway) I didn't expect it at all.

Question though, on Windows we have WinAPI to add extra functionality to scripts. How would we extend it on Android? I mean, can we actually extend our scripts to use Android Java libraries? I mean, you can create extensions for jRuby, but I don't know, it might open the program up for exploitabilities and stuff.

This is fantastic news! With the hype surrounding the Ouya and the rise of more and more Android RPGs, I think there is definitely a big demand for a utility like this. Thank you for working on this, I'm really looking forward to it. Hope everything goes smoothly!

Depends, actually. You can export with the RTP included in the game's archives (although the game's file size would be a bit larger). As for size being a deal-breaker... Android devices have removable storage that can be swapped out, so that shouldn't be much of a problem.

Make sure to include the option to support Ouya-specific features. I'm pretty sure it has some features not availble on other Android devices.

That's true, they do have removable storage. The biggest issue though is that you can't download to storage, you have to download to the phone itself and move it onto an SD card through the app's settings. Most phones I've seen don't have more then 150 megs internal memory, and most cheap phones hardly have 50

I think you are misunderstanding memory usage on these phones. I have several games on my Android device that were intially only 30mb to download from the play store but require an extra 200-500mb of extra download on first run to play the game. Grand theft auto IV is a good example. Or even operation sandstorm

You could still use the removable storage once the initial game application has been installed.
