Best DLC, in your opinion?
This sale is fantastic, but I only really want to get one or two DLC.

I'm in a community of artists, and a few can also do music I suppose, so tiles and sprites would be best I guess? I'm not certain.

Also, I remember after watching the trailer video and combing through reviews that someone said the character pop-up art and the character names that appeared alongside text boxes is NOT in vanilla - is that something you can't do in vanilla and you need a DLC for, and if so which one?

really hoping i get a reply before this sale ends which is way too soon, so glad i woke up early

What style are you going for since there's traditional anime or western fantasy variation?

I'm very fond of traditional fantasty RPG, favorite series being things like the first six Final Fantasy games and Golden Sun, so probably anime RPG, some Japanese tiles might be cool.

But I am still wondering about if the character art/name thing is in vanilla or not, I'm looking around but can't find an answer.

I own DS, Future, Modern & Samurai. I bought them for various reasons, not for one game. They're great for a learning tool and I have since starting making my own, but I can attest that having them have made making my game easier.

There are a couple others I would like to get, The High Fantasy Pack to be more specific. I would like to know how the models are made and have been looking into trying to create a similar style for myself.

I would recommend you never buy DLC for RPG Maker. Just go to OpenGameArt.org and find free resources! There are also plenty of RPG Maker communities online which have sprite sheets readily available among other resources.

Check what you can and cannot do with the "other" DLC. The DLC from Steam allows you to use it in Commercial\Non Commercial games. So, just double check first.

Hmm, I knew about the communities, which made me even more hesitant on some DLC. It feels like the DS ones have the most punch for the money I suppose? It looks like they come with a feature or two that vanilla RPG Maker otherwise lacks, unless those screenshots are decietful. Now the hard decision between DS and DS+, hah.

They're all good in their own way. It depends on what you think best fits into your current project.

There's also the issue of commercial licenses. You can certainly find resources online, but they may or may not have any commercial licenses included.

A lot of stuff on the net is reposted, and not all of the reposts point back to the original creator. makes it very hard to give credit, or to obtain permission to use commercially.

Out of the DLC I've bought so far, I'd say I like the Samurai pack the best, even though I haven't made much use of it yet.

The Samurai has great artwork. If you want a feudal era type of game I would go with that.

But, the DS has lots of artwork in it. Not bad artwork either. In fact I am using that myself.

Though I would NEVER use the 3D art. They just look really really bad to me.

I would suggest heavily looking into reviews on certain DLC that you are planning to buy, some DLC you will be unable to make a game out of because of the lack of tilesets, and maybe the art style will be hard to make more specific tilesets and characters thta you want to fit into the game.

Just look at some reviews on those DLC to make sure you are getting what you actually want.
