import .png map? convert .png to .rvdata2?
Hello,

I've found some useful tutorals about parallax mapping and all of that but I was wondering if there is a way to import a map you make in Gimp into RPGMaker as a /map/ and not just an image. Like, is there a way to convert it into rvdata2 ?? I've been looking all day and have only found this link
http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/10044-importing-maps/
but it doesn't talk about how to get the maps you make into that format.
I've made a map already in Gimp and I want to import it so I can see it in the background and place invisible tiles over it for walls and no walkthrough spots.. I hope I didn't waste my time making it. :P

Also, if theres a scripting answer, please don't hesitate to suggest it. I've had some expereince with scripting so I'm up for the challenge. :)

Thanks in advance for any help!

...I always thought you could just dump the image in the folder where the others are kept and it'll show up if you wish to change it.
.rvdata2 files contain a lot of extra info that isn't there in .png files, and as far as I'm aware, there isn't a reliable way to covert an image into a map. Your best bet is to find a parallax mapping script, place the .png file into the folder that contains the parallax images (./Graphics/Parallaxes) and work from there, following the instructions of the script.

That's what I was afraid of. I know how to do this and already have a script I'm working with. I was just hoping there was a different way to go about it.

Thanks!

I tried renaming the .png as MAP001.rvdata2 and placing it in the DATA folder where the maps are kept but rpgmaker doesn't recognise it. And you can't use a .png either. /shrug

You did not make a map. You made a picture.
Now when you put that picture into the Parallaxes folder, go into RPGMaker, create a new map in there, choose that picture for Parallax Background in the Map Properties and do not forget to check "Show in the Editor" you get exactly what you are asking for.

Simples.

Thanks! Wasn't sure how most folks went about importing those, but I know a lot of people map in Gimp so I knew there was a way! Thats exactly what I was looking for. :)
