How do you make custom tiles?
Does anybody have a recommendation on how to create your own tiles? Like lets say I wanna make a sidewalk but not use the tiles in currently given.

so you need to navigate to the rtp folder inside of rpg maker. To do this, either find rpg maker in your steam library, right click it > properties > local files > browse local files. Or navigate to your steam COMMON folder, find rpg maker > rtp > graphics > and tilesets should be near the bottom. Right click it and "edit with" and there ya go.

I recommend against editing the RTP content itself. Always work on a copy.

Yeah... also, someone recently posted a very nice set of templategrid on this forum if you want to start up from scratch. Remember tought the logic of the views for tiles and sprites in a game; we see TOP and Front both at the same time and TOP and REAR if a character walks north or TOP and Side if the character goes east west!

There are lessons links on that in the pinned Before You Post tread. I still find some REALLY interesting bits there even if I am supposed to know all that stuff already! Really tasty crispy infos there that are sweet on the creativity.

Hope to see your tiling soon!

Would you recommend Photoshop as a place to create tiles/characters.

photoshop, gimp, heck even paint on the newer windows. They're fine as long as they can support a grid and transparencies. photoshop would do just fine

i would Use either a premade template or use the tileset.png in rtp as a reference. Each square is 32x32 px and charater sets are 3x4 (32x3 across, 32x4 down).

I definately do my stuff In Photoshop most of the time. As for characters I guess some here will use GCH for regular sized sprites.
