Still, I personally would wait for RPG Maker Unite, as it's going to get Unity integration and stuff. Will be far better than MZ.
But I looked up the release date of RPG Maker Unite, and it said "February 15, 2022." It's been months since then.
Also, MZ is excellent; I will buy unity, but I don't know the code, so I got commercial plugins to be available prefabelly in a bundle like visual stellar does, lol. Once I can get plugins to do what I can do on MZ and more yeah I jump ship with projects till then get at least one if not 2 more projects out on MZ in next couple years
RPG Maker MZ, to my understanding works great for Mobile Gaming, other then that I would not waste my time with it...
Outside of that?
I'd rather use;
RPG Maker 2000, RPG Maker 2K3,
RPG Maker XP 3D, RPG Maker VX,
or RPG Maker VX Ace...
Each has their own advantages, &
also present their own disadvantages, too
2000 - Offers Tonz more Freedom, &
------- Offers the Most
2K3 - Offers Updated Combat, Music, &
------ adds a Memory File Explorer, I think
XP - Offers less, but adds 3D Maps
VX - Offers less Options, but adds Simpler
----- Char Generator & New Scripting
VX Ace - Updated Scripting, but less
---------- Freedom, & less Options
MZ - Offers Mobile Use, but cuts back on a lot of things...
1 of these Offers Internet Gaming, & Add-On / Expansion Packs, but can't be sure which one actually Offers it, oO
The Cut Animationseditor got readded as far as i read, besides that i cant recall that something was missing.
recently i read that some users were complaining that XP is blurry when upscaling and
outdated in that area. but it got the best autotiles feature. 3x3 instead of 2x2,
that was often a critique point in the other Makers.
VX-Ace nice and cheap for windows only games. easiest to use for smal children.
MV and MZ allow to create Browser Games.
rm2k3 for some the best RPG Maker there is in terms of Event Commands.
But it Limits the developer, no Scripting, smal resolution. But some seem to want exactly that.
Woops, I got MZ & MV a bit mixed up? oO
I forgot there is two M Editions...
-- It's been a good long while
---- since i've used these on a Computer.
Also, I think it was VX Ace & the 1st M Edition
that added Scripting, & just normal RPG VX was just an improvement of 2K3, but with a few changes, like Combat Creator, & such were different... Again, why I keep both around...
The 2nd M Edition, forgot which it was?
Is the one for Mobile Phones...
Again, i'm not saying any of them are bad, i'm just pointing out their differences, & that each one can benefit you in a different way. I just found that the Mobile one was only useful to me when Developing Games on the Mobile Phones, cause all the other ones already made more sense for Computer Game Developments...
RPG XP, you are right, this is also why I don't use it much, but if you want more 3D Towns, Shadows on grass, & people, make it look like people can walk behind buildings, & actually have objects behind buildings, & such... More indepth Developments of Dungeons, & more layers of mappings to work with?
RPG XP, does really well with all of this, despite the blurry issues being noticably there, & such...
To my understanding, Scripting & Ruby Scripting allows a lot of Freedom for Coding stuff you could not do before, & it's not as limited as the old method was before...
However, adding the use of Scripting cuts back on a bunch of Features, though, & to fix this? You'll need to Script them back into the Games, instead of the older more simpler way, but by doing that? Now this is where your limits get in the way, because now things work like they did before, but you don't have enough to do anything new with Scripting that you wanna Explore...
This is why I keep Scripting around, but also almost never use it...
I do the Scripting on New Projects that may not need the use of some older formulas, & I can get away using just Scripting. But due to it's limits, I just overall almost never use it. I just found the old way, a lot more useful, I guess...
The old way was more limited by Memory, where as the Scripting is limited by another way.
