But the problem with that is, every ship is set up to have enough energy output to withstand warp drive infinetly.
So what am I missing?
they're useful, if you build them in between two planets, let's say the distance between is 2 projectiles worth, 1st of all it'll give you vision on the path to the next planet, 2nd your ships will travel faster towards this planet, so without the projectors there your ships will take longer to reach the planet now if you want the trades and warships to go faster you must build them, and the vision is important as well. Plus they are also like checkpoints, if built in dark space leading to another planet, the ships tend to warp towards them so you can sometimes use them to make shortcuts and such.
A critical factor you're missing is that if you're ships are configured to have negative energy gen in warp you can fit more weapons and have imperial defense ships (or just outfit all ships this way for efficency) and use projectors to eliminate the issue altogether ontop of the speed boosts and the fact that projectors help the overall economy by boosting freighter movements.
also as mentioned above they give sight, you can also configure small defense platforms to place alongside your projectors with long range guns so that ships passing through can be potshotted. its all about thinking strategically.
