Can someone explain how storage works, or point me to a thread where it has been explained. From what I can see, the max I can store is limited to what my House can hold, and nothing to do with warehouses or barns I have. I think I must have missed something as I see people building loads of barns/warehouse. Thanks for the help.

Barns, warehouses ad silos are temporary storage until the goods can be transported to the farmhouse to sell. If you need to keep some of a resource to feed animals you can specify a command to reserve the goods in the respective storage. Make sure you store them close to where they are needed. Everything else goes to the farmhouse to sell.

Farmhouse is the main selling depot for everything!
Production buildings transfer their stuff to a silo, barn or warehouse. The farm house workers come and collect it from the silo, barn or warehouse.
Logistics act like an extension to farm house workers and also collect from silo, barn and warehouse then transfer to Farm house.
Be sure to place silo, barn and warehouse close to your production buildings to speed up transfers.
Houses are also important to place close to your production buildings and ensure workers live in the correct house close to their place of work so as to improve happiness as well as speed of travel to and from work.
