How does the shield generator work?

Didn't figure it out after trying to pick it a few times.

Seems it take effect when there are enemies nearby (quite close)

It seems to be both manually triggered and trigger-on-hit for up close mobs

Shield Generator just gives some Shield points for a short duration when used. Useful, when you are cornered and need to take some hits to get out.

It gives like, a 2 second shield that can get fairly beefy. Autofire uses it when you get hit, so I don't think that hit is shielded, but if you were to take another hit within 2 seconds, your shield will be up for that.

So, use manually, or hopefully autofire has your back.

I was also told by the devs that certain attacks will not trigger shield gen, such as Jorogumo's push attack.
