i heard that you control the char with the D-Pad instead of the left stick on the 360controller? is that true?

Default configuration for movement is the left stick. And you can fully reconfigure the controls.

No, you can't fully reconfigure the controls. Aiming doesn't work properly unless you have an XBox controller because you can't re-map the aim axes.
