Osiris vs. Aquila - Arbiter vs. Eryx
I'd like to see some discussion on these counter parts.

I find it hard to judge these weapons as the serve the same purpose... Osiris does crowd, Aquila does crowd. Arbiter is slow but high dmg, Eryx ditto.

Without seeing numbers, I find it hard to make up my mind what weapon to use. You get the latter of the two later on in the game, but does that make the first one obsolete? Is there still a reason to use Osiris over Aquila?

Discuss what weapon you prefer and why- and for which situations!

On Angelic Weapons, I love using Aquila and drag enemies towards me, do a bit of damage to them while they're up there in the air, and then whirlwind around with them to score some easy points :) When I fight frost knights, I find also find Aquila easier to remove their shields, then I usually switch to Osiris to control them easier.. But hey, that's just what I like to do.

On the Demonic Weapons, I basically only use Arbiter, it's much easier to control fights with it, or so I find.
The minute I got Aquila I basically stopped using Osiris, really the only use Osiris gets out of me now is to knock a massive group up into the air after I've pulled them all in with Aquila, then I just use it to keep the combo fresh before switching back.

On the other hand, I don't get on with Eryx at all, much in the same way that I never got on with Ifrit, Beowulf or Gilgamesh in the previous games. Never found them particularly fun to use, whereas I find Arbiter's moveset works nicely for some impressive looking, hard hitting finishers to long ground and aerial combos.

...Though even with aerial combos I tend to finish the job with a Helm Breaker from Rebellion about 90% of the time.

Osiris can suspend enemies in the air easier. Aquila is fast juggler, and all round better crowd control so I prefer it. I can't seem to stay up with it, so it's annoying in that way.

Eryx is a combo weapon, the only worthy combo you can get out of Arbiter is the pause ground attack. I hardly use Demon weapons unless I need to, but generaly I'll end off a pause combo with arbiter. Eryx is a little too risky for me, but a better weapon for Demon enemies because you have more offensive options.

My current opinion of the weapons:

Osiris is for easy mode infinite air combos that keep putting you higher into the sky as opposed to falling down making you safe to the majority of stuff.

Aquila is there for better crowd control than Osiris and for Round Trip.

Eryx is there for repeated full charge punch combos (thanks to Round Trip) and charged Stomp combo enders. Its also my weapon of choice against the dual sword portal guys.

Artiber, I confess i've barely used since obtaining Eryx, and only really used it when required - I think part of my love for Eryx comes from my love for Ifrit from the first game, so maybe i'm biased?

The thing about Osiris is that it's only worth your time when you fully level it up. Aquila is very awesome, fast, flexible and smooth, but Osiris is hands down the more powerful weapon after you upgraded its feed ability and unlocked all the moves. After that, you're essentially untouchable as long as you're using it right.

I actually like the Arbiter a lot for my "strong" weapon moreso than Eryx, even though it is much, much slower. It just feel so good and so right and you get a real sense of weight and strength from the sound and animation, and it really brings out the graphics as opposed to the fast paced weapons which, while the artwork and graphics are clearly visible in detail as opposed to the rest of the series, pales in comparison to the camera work and quality of the game's design in more slow, focused moments.

I guess Arbiter is more my favorite for cosmetic reasons, but it is the more powerful weapon in terms of strength anyway.

I like everything except the Eryx... I just can't find a good use for it over anything else

Alright.. to answer my own question.. I found out how powerful combining Aquila and Osiris in one combo can be. Start with Aquila when you're surriound and do the pull attack (2x att, pause, att). Then immediately switch to Osiris and keep att pressed down for one second. You'll take up everything you pulled near sky high. There you can juggle them around with either Osiris or Aquila (I prefer Osiris since it'll charge pretty fast at this point). If you have 4-5 enemies around you that's almost instantly SS.

I love messing around with these things!

I'm a little floored that anyone would pick between them. In some of the bigger fights, particularly in the harder difficulty modes, I switch between all of them. Combining all of the weapons in a particularly nasty combo is not only awesome to look at, but can really be extremely effective. I liked using Aquila for the combo that pulls everyone in, using Osiris to juggle them in the air, rebellion to lift everyone into the air, eryx to slam them to the ground, and then finish up with with an Arbiter ground combo.

They all have their uses and mixing them together provides the best payoff.

Oh, and in case no one noticed, you can start a combo with one weapon and finish it with another. If you don't like the slow attacks of the Arbiter, then start the combo with Rebellion and use the third strike with the arbiter to get it's fantastic multi-hit attack.

To me Osiris and Eryx are now just for extra style points. If I could get through the game just using Aquila, Rebellion, and Arbiter I'd be fine.
Gigadesu! Jan 28, 2013 @ 10:40pm
I can't really pick, I love switching them up constantly.

I think Ninja Theory completely, utterly, dropped the ball on Eryx. Beowulf, Ifrit, and Gilgamesh were far, far superior to use in the past games compared to Eryx.

Back on Topic:
I love Aquila because I can make myself damn near unbeatable By spamming the ♥♥♥♥ out of the Aquila Projectile move to multiple enemies, then rape them with an Osiris/Rebellion/Arbiter pause combo, it makes short work of Witches, Chainsaw guys and most any enemies save for the demon weapon enemies. I use it o clear the room of lesser enemies and isolate those sword guys...

I like both Eryx and Arbiter. Arbiter is mainly for strong enemies, while Eryx is for both weak and strong enemies. Arbiter does much damage in simpler use esp. Trinity Smash, while I believe Eryx does the most damage if fully charged and just framed (releasing charge in the same moment it gains charge), thus need deeper skills. I haven't go much with Angelic Weapons but I prefer Aquila for the Tornado that is easy to execute and can hit many times.

They're all useful if you want to pull off the best combos and get some serious points.

As a new insight, I´m a big fan of using opening with two punches from Eryx, switch to Arbiter, pause, and finish it. It´s faster than two-hit/pause-hit from just Arbiter, which is always better against slow but strong enemies. Perfect balance between dmg and speed... using demon weapons only.
