Texture Modding + Bald Dante
So I've been messing around with some texture mods and I've figured a bunch of stuff out. The .UPK can be extracted and a few have textures in them. Some can be repacked but sometimes they show up as corrupt so it's a 50/50 thing for now. It seems like the models are also in there but since I'm not clever enough to find out what type of models will be required to replace them I'm passing on that for now. I'm not sure if the models have a bone structure on them or if it's separate so maybe someone more experienced can take a look.

I've found out though that most of Dante's clothing is done in layers, the actual skin is the coatless one and then each layer has an alpha, for example his hair if you remove the texture or set the alpha to 0 you will get a Bald'ish Dante:

I also tested with another thing where I made his hood transparent and it doesn't show on his coat obviously, but like I said his clothing seems to be in layers and the textures are seperate for his trousers, top, coat, hood, hair, eyes, face, boots. So we might see some decent mods soon. The rebellion is a little tricky, it seems to have 3 layers that form the actual sword.

I'll keep taking a look into stuff and see what else I can find out but if anyone here is good with modding or knows a little like me then feel free to join the group below and I'll post up more of what I find and stuff.

So as a proof of concept and to show people I'm not photo-shopping I recorded a video with fraps, it's 30seconds long and shows Dante with a pair of Red Gloves. Nothing special but I'll be editing his costume later today, maybe a nice red and white jacket?

i just want to make sure i read this correctly.
"I've found out though that most of Dante's clothing is done in layers, the actual skin is the coatless one" so is there a way to play with dante with out his coat on? just his jeans and tank top?

I'll try to explain more in depth.

Coatless Dante has his jacket on, it's just transparent. It's like DMC4 in a way where you could erase parts of the texture and they wouldn't show in game. So far I've found out that the hair, jacket, hood, trousers, boots, face, pendant, eyes are all separate textures.

Why not inport DMC4 Dante into the game? Rip->Convert->structure->import~test/MOAR_test=final.

I am interested in Hooded new Dante. (Kat style)

If you mean the entire character, model and all that's seriously a lot of effort. Also like I mentioned the UPK extractor doesn't work perfect, changing his hair came up as corrupt. I tried a lot of different things and the only one that worked was the gloves. For now only TexMod seems to work so changing models will require someone to custom code an extractor/packer.

Qloc made some modifications to the engine. Or Ninjas!
Maybe we (I mean who knows how) should not modify but make a custom DLC instead.

Sorry, broken English.
iirc you can unlock Dante's jeans and tank top skin by beating the game on Son of Sparda difficulty.

That's a good idea, I took a look earlier at the DLC folder and it seemed to just be a texture file (.TFC) I also took a better look at the Neo Dante skin and it seems that it's a texture on top of the original Dante jacket, if you notice it's a little shorter and has been cut out around the edges. You can also see the bump in that sash thing where his jacket hangs over his belt.

oh really? so i dont need to find some overly complex solution then? thx for the update XD i just saw the dlc coustume trailer video and assmed that those were all the custumes availible in thte game.
There's regular Dante but with white hair when you beat the game once in any difficulty. Then there's tank top Dante when you beat it in SoS difficulty. The last is Super Dante when you beat it in Dante Must Die difficulty.

It's so hard to explain! lol. But the base model is the Tank Top one, which actually has the coat on but it's transparent.

I would really like to see some shadowy purple particles for abilities in the future. Take me back to DMC4's bosses when they go devil trigger. That looked sick.

I just cannot edit anything. O_o UDK dies too. Deleted it. Wanted to experiment Batman-like long coat. or Longer. Physical crap (for fun).

It's moddable? Sweet!

The issues will be likely worked out in time.
