Is this game worth it for a new player of the series?
I have never played a Devil Mary Cry game before and I was interested in this game since I'm a fan of hack n slash games. But is it worth it if I never played a Devil May Cry game before?

Definitely. Especially with a gamepad, but the keyboard controls are still the best in the series.

Will the original series affect this new one in any way? Such as the storyline, etc.

No it is a total reimagining of the franchise.

Frankly, beyond awesome. I have never played a game that stuck me on my chair for a entire day

Definitely the most accessible, easiest to execute combo moves, if a little short for the main storyline. If you like going back to get all keys, rooms, achievements, then it's really good.

If you like this one, DMC 4 is also worth playing, but has a different visual style.

I don't recommend 4 as it is literally only half a game, and the story is a contradicition in itself alone. But Nero and Dante are both really really fun to play as.
Definitely get DMC3 if you want one from the classic series. Hundreds of hours spent in that game. And it's also the first in the chronological sttory if you care about the story.

If you're going to get DMC3 then get the PS2 copy. The pc port was horrid and that saddens me because that game was one of my favorite titles in the original series (considering that DMC: Devil May Cry is a reboot).

The first one I found easy to play was DMC 4. I was completely useless at DMC 3 (PC version) and had to give up after several re-installs. Must be old age.
