vergil's downfall is probably the most platform heavy part of the game, and it's just jumping, gliding, and teleporting either to a platform, or teleporting a platform to you.
I don't really show it here, but platforms in this dlc are made to add to the combat by forcing you to fight over large pits and such. very different from god of war.

Also don't think I meant that as a strong critism toward the new DMC. Game genres change all of the time. You can see impressions from big games like Uncharted, GOW, COD, and many others in many modern games. Heck look at the big string of MMO's that released over the past few years after the success of WoW. Of course most of those MMO's were late to the party since MMO's have by and large switched to Free-to-Play style.
the pull to and pull to you mechanic here is very fast paced, it's actually the mechanic we EXPECTED from god of war, at least from a combat standpoint. but god of war's variant was hopelessly shallow.
as a plotforming measure it's very different, it's much more fast paced and meant to get you across each gap stylishly.
god of war didn't even use the pull mechanic in the same way, it was for combat, but it used a chain swing ala castlevania IV a lot for the platforming.
the chain pull is a bit inspired, at least as far as the combat, it's how the god of war version's should've been.
but as a platforming mechanic? very original.
TBAAGamer, how did you like the game overall? I found it to be fun, but not fantastic. The typical B / 8 type of game. I didn't see anything that was seriously wrong, but I didn't see anything totally revolutionary. I will say that the later combat was quite fun, although they may have went with too many weapons since by the end there were 2 for left trigger, 2 for right trigger, and 3 on your gun slot. The gun slot in particular was annoying to cycle during combat, so I just left it on shotgun most of the time.
It's a great experiment into a reimagined formula. the expressive combat was nailed, even though the difficulty wasn't, at least not until vergil's downfall, and as you no doubt saw from the video, all it takes is skill to lower that difficulty.
on the whole, I would never accept the game as a replacement for old dante or vergil or devil may cry in general, but the series did need to stretch itself in new directions. it did that wonderfully.
i'd say it's a solid B as far as games go and an 8 to 7 out of ten. damned fun too, ton of replay value, if nothing else it's good to wail at enemies in stylish fashion without having to work for it.
I would give the game an 8+ but that may be because I had low expectations for it. The previous DMC's (other than 4) I found were pretty weak on story, being a recreation of previous Dante myth, is pretty focused on rounding out characters and creating an enjoyable story to experience (though dialogue can be a little weak and crammed full of puns) The combat mechanics seems flawless, even if the enemy variants are minimil. I can see myself replaying this much more than 4 (which was good but less fun).
Yes, actually. DMC4 has Nero and his Devil Bringer arm that allows him to pull enemies towards him (not sure if he can leap to them with the arm, but it could be an unlockable move) as well as pull himself towards floating grapple points in platforming sections.
This ain't god of war.
