devil may cry 1 - devil may cry 2 - devil may cry 3 - devil may cry 4 - DmC devil may cry
the time line for the games is DMC 3 DMC 1 DMC 4 DMC 2
DmC devil may cry is not in the same universe its a reboot
DMC 1 and 2 are not on steam and 3 is a bad port
if you have 360 or ps3 you can pick up the HD collection (DMC 1, 2 and 3 special edition) for cheap
if you get 4 get devil may cry 4 special edition which comes out in 4 days
DmC has a definitive edition but only on XBONE and PS4
DMC3 Style Switcher mod manages to redeem the PC version of DMC3, so there's that. And the style switching is optional too.
DMC2 is really dull. As for team lead, the DMC1 team lead made Bayonetta, the guys who made DMC2, 3 and 4 are still employed by Capcom.
but to flatout call it bad and that no one should play it is doing this game a disservice
as a game by its self its perfectly fine its only glareing flaw could be it's story
and thats a matter of opinion and taste
this game only starts being bad if you compair it to the 1 3 and 4 and thats only if you played them enough times to appreciate there depth and challange
ill just politely ignore your braindead take and play all of them.
What has changed in that that time is the HD colleciton has released on Steam, Capcom actually removed the Standalone DMC3 PC port as well as Vanilla DMC4. DMC5 released, and they changed the timeline so the order is now 3,1,2,4,5. Because they don't care about DMC2 and change it's place in the timeline so they don't have to acknowledge it.
DmC: Devil May Cry is still a reboot universe with no baring on the original games, and the Definitive edition is still only on console.
If you don't want to play in release order, do whatever you want, but Everything I stated was a fact 8 years ago, and I'm stating the updated facts now.
