Do I need 2 copies for lan?
I'm really wanting to buy this game to play the lan, But to be honest I just want it for the lan and if I need multiple copies it's not worth it to me.
To be clear I would be playing lan with someone actually in my home so we would have the same IP, Is this possible or is the "lan" just a scam?

I think the game won't start unless steam is running.

Ok, But do you need 2 copies to play lan?, You can launch the game if you are in offline mode, That's how I have to lan in some games.

LAN Multiplayer/CoOp works no problem, but kicks one player where both are using the same download (same activation key)

What glenn52 said.

We tried unsuccessfully and it actually locks you out of multiplayer for about an hour if you try. We ended up buying a second copy for lan play. Only tried it once successfully but haven't had time yet for a long session.

How do you even play this game in LAN mode? All I see is the multiplayer button but trying to create a game from there tries to connect to their servers and fails.

Obviously we don't have access to Internet when we play LAN games.

Agreed, how do you do LAN in this? We also have no internet access for our LAN party, but can't play this game. A huge problem as we bought this primarily for the co-op play....

I asked the same question on the official forums and apparently we need constant Internet connection for LAN games. Doesn't sound like LAN games to me when we have to use their official servers for playing.

I'll be getting a refund for both copies due to false marketing (valid in at least Sweden). Very unfortunate.
From what I've read the connection to their servers is purely for anti-piracy reasons, just verifies your activation key. Then afterwards you do play on the hosts server not the publishers.

This ^^ What is on their server while you are hosting a game is simply details on where the host is. The other player clicks that, the game gets those directions, and then the player connects to the local host. No on the fly gaming information flows through Giant's server - only the directions on how to locate the host and it of course verifies the key before giving you those directions.

Sure, although the problem is that they're saying LAN works, although it still require an Internet connection. A REAL LAN mode wouldn't.

I get that they don't want pirates to play their game, but saying LAN games are supported isn't really true.

Any modern modem/router will get your game to automatically run through LAN if that's the closest to your server. It's not a game feature.

Note: Games use "LAN features" to promote their games to be able to play in "offline LAN mode", which means you don't need an Internet connection to play locally. In this case you do need an active Internet connection, which means it's not really a "LAN mode". Like I said, any modern (10-year old) modem/router will rout your computer through LAN (local) if that's what's closest anyway.
