For the Steam version, you would each need your own copy on separate Steam accounts. Not sure about the copy from the official website. Also there is no acutal LAN as you suggest, only servers in which you would create your game.

bulwark is correct, you'd need seperate copies of the game but when you create a multiplayer game and password it so only you and your brother can join... it will be lag free as if you were using LAN connection.

So if I understand this correctly.. Farming simulator does not support a real LAN multiplayer. The game will always connect to a FS server. So an offline LAN setup to play Farming simulator multiplayer will not succeed? What purpose does that serve?

awmoeder2, you are correct. I believe the purpose at this point is to prevent unauthorized use of the game. You will not experience any lag connecting on the same network as it will quite feel like a LAN, it just isn't. If your internet goes out, you will not be able to play MP.

Indeed, you do have to be connected to the internet, this is to prevent piracy.

I can only add that when you look for games to join, any game created on the same network as yours (LAN) will have a small house icon next to it. So I'm told ...

well, that's stupid as hell, it even says, RIGHT IN THE DESCRIPTION, of the game, that it has true lan, THIS ISN'T FREAKING TRUE LAN

It says in the description "You’ll be able to manage a farm with up to 10 other players online or via local network."

I agree this is very very annoying, it should state that it can use LAN but must also be connected to the internet.

It is extremely misleading....

In steam it states
Additional:INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED FOR THE GAME ACTIVATION AND THE ONLINE GAME

Obviously, however DOES NOT state that INTERNET is required for LAN. As LAN is NOT ONLINE gaming, it is offline networking (Local Area Network)

So if you cannot get online you cannot play just through the LAN, how incredibly annoying, they should change it for the steam version as you have to all have your own copy anyway coz its on steam, if we all connected on LAN its still on each steam account, surely they have the technology to know these things.

Games two steps forward four backwards. Games use to be so much easier to play together, split screens 2 or 4 players on one game, linking to other machines for multiplayer. As far back as i can remember, why make games less user friendly.

Well I wanted to have my dad try the multiplayer on LAN before buying... because obviously you need two steam accounts for any long-term playing...
