Game runs like junk on 1080Ti?
Wanted to ask, is this a badly optimized game for PC? I bought the game ages ago and quit playing after first couple missions because of the horrible performance, I've tried going back to it only to be greeted with the same issue, I am getting around 30-40fps on LOW settings. I have updated all my drivers and have tried re-installing the game, it still runs like this. I can't understand since I have got a 1080Ti, which I predict the majority of the players here don't even have. It can't be my rig, I can run a lot more latest games (including DOOM, PUBG) at 60FPS+, and it surprises me a game this old can be this bad.

I've heard good things about this game, and I'd love to play it, but I can't, its unplayable in this state. Any help I would appreciate! :)

It's your rig, dude. Sorry. The game runs like butter for the rest of us. If it was the game, then everyone would have the same experience that you do.
But, we don't.
Because it's your rig.
It's not even that good...

Dont agree, my only problem (till recent update 05/18) was the laggy mouse in menue. Never in Game, all fine there and now to my previous PC Specs -

AMD Phenom X4 / 945 / 3.0 Ghz
4g Ram
Win XP/sp3
Radeon hd5700/ 1gb V-Ram

have a newer one now!!

Suggest to read through all support post u can find - hope youll find something. On the other hand - they just updated this Vintage Title (why?) and now lots of tipps will be obsolete:steamfacepalm:

It does indeed 'run like butter™'
What settings are you running this game at?

I'm at 1440p Ultra with x4 MSAA and my fps is around 70-120

i had no problems with the game even on my old crap rig

ASUS P5 b motherboard from 2007
Intel core 2 quad q9650 from 2009 clocked @ about 3.6 ghz
8 gig of DDR 2 - 800 ram matched set of 4 ...2gig dimms KINGSTON RAM
ASUS Strix GTX 960 factory OC card ..pretty sure back then i used Nvidia driver 359.06
Win 10 PRO as well as win 8 , 8.1 , and win 7 ultimate all 64 bit

ran the game with pretty much the same settings other then yea in 1080 P rather then Nvidia DSR 1440 P

was always over 60 FPS with Vsync off ..so no screen tearing at all

the op's 1080 ti should have no problems with over 100 FPS all the time in 1440 P
2560 X 1440 ..unless he has a driver issue

and no Newer Nvidia drivers do not = always better drivers ..if fact they screwed the pooch on the far cry 5 game ready drivers ..as well as the next ones they put out ,, that were supposed to fix issues .. but they created more for some users

see the nvidia forums

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1044053/geforce-drivers/far-cry-unplayable-driver-crashes/post/5325694/#5325694

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1049931/397-31-will-not-install/?offset=2

all i can say to the op is .... get and use DDU and try an older driver

your game should run fine .. and i really hope he has better then a 1080 P screen for his 1080 ti card .. those cards may run bad if ya game in 1080 P on em in some games .. you wanna play at a higher res and shut off all AA ..as the 1080 ti card has the horsepower to do so

My dude you are right, it should run extremely well at 2560 x 1440 with a 1080...

But I also have a 1080 with an i7, 32gb of ram, and also extreme issues with FC3 when I run the game at 2560 x 1440z

At max settings it runs at an average of 30 - 40 fps and I get drops constantly down to 15 fps or less. To make it actually playable I have to go into the game files and disable the dynamic lighting.

In FC5 I get no problems whatsoever playing at 2560 x 1440 at max settings, with usually above 60 fps.

Lmao... i am using Core i3, 8 gb Ram and Nvidia gt 730 for gaming which is really bad for gaming in 2018 still i can play farcry 3 while having more then 60 fps at high quality ... And watching ur complain about the game makes me laugh till death.Probably u dont know how maintain ur pc or dont know a single thing about pc optimization ...
XusNorris 30/mai./2018 às 11:45
The problem is a bug related with the game's engine, one of the cores of your CPU is reaching 90%-100% usage, this make the game run like s h i t.
You have to:

1) CONTROL + ALT + SUPR
2) Task Manager
3) Details Tab
4) Right click on FC3 executable
5) Affinity
6) Uncheck the core is getting 90-100% usage and then apply changes
7) Check again that core and save changes again
8) Play the game and enjoy a smooth experience

BONUS: You have to do this every time you wanna play the game....

Had similar problems with an i7 8700k 5Ghz, 32GB Ram DDR 4 3200Mhz, 1080 Ti and game installed on a SSD, the only thing helped me was this.

If you're running 4k with 8xMSAA it's still crush most cards below 60fps.

With my OC'd GTX1070 Windforce (>2ghz), 6700k @4ghz, 32GB 3400 DDR4, if I run 4k on ultra even with 2xMSAA it'll drop below 60 sometimes.

So I run it at 1440p with 2xMSAA and MFAA in NV control panel (looks like 4xAA). Also force 16x Anisotropic in NV CP. I also run custom gamerprofile with 4096 res shadows though so that kills performance a little too but looks much better.

I shut off vsync in game and run adaptive in NVCP.

Try these settings, I bet it will run good.

*First set GFX to ULTRA in game or gamerprofile.xml changes won't work*

Then:

and:
https://i.imgur.com/XviY2hT.jpg

In your gamerprofile.xml (C:\Users\xxyournamexx\Documents\My Games\Far Cry 3) add these lines:

https://i.imgur.com/x9HzhfC.jpg

</CustomQuality> <Environment> <quality RainNumSplashesPerSecond="60" id="ultrahigh" /> </Environment> <Post> <quality FXAALevel="2" GameDepthOfField="0" CinematicDepthOfField="1" MotionBlur="0" SSAOMaxDistance="300" id="ultrahigh" /> </Post> <Geometry> <quality MaxDecalCount="200" MaxDecalCountPerType="100" id="ultrahigh" /> </Geometry> <Shadow> <quality SunShadowFadeRange="10" SunShadowRange0="9" SunShadowRange1="22" SunShadowRange2="60" ShadowMapSize="4096" CascadedShadowMapSize="4096" RainShadowMapSize="1024" SoftShadows="1" EnablePCSS="1" SpotsCastShadows="1" CloudShadows="1" id="ultrahigh" /> </Shadow> </RenderProfile>

Then set it to READ ONLY.
Setting read only will start game with FOV set last time you ran it every time. So set FOV in game, then change this file and set to read only.

This game still looks very good even all these years later..

I spent some time profiling this game and here is what I find. This is on a system with GTX-1080, I7-3770, and 32GB RAM, running NVidia surround mode 5760x1080 on win 10 x64.

It does use multiple cores evenly as expected and does not get bottlenecked by one thread. The game doe not use more than 1GB of the available RAM, and CPU overall utilization is 30% on average, and does not spike above 50%. There is nothing to suggest the game performance is limited by CPU or RAM.

GPU utilization is high, as one would expect. Using the "Ultra" settings in game under "Video Quality" settings, and the default setting on the "Video" settings page (where resolution, MSAA, AO, etc. are set), the default MSAA was 4x and ambient occlusion was set to "HDAO". The frame rate was in the 40's. Increasing MSAA to 8x put the frame rate in the 30s. putting MSAA to 2x put the frame rate in the high 50s.

Playing with the ambient occlusion settings made no measurabel impact on frame rate, but I found trhat using anything but HDAO, you get a halo around objects. HDAO does not do this.

MSAA is where the frame rate bottleneck is, and this is not out of the ordinary and certainly does not indicate a problem with the game. There is nothing a game can do to make MSAA perform better. MSAA is completely the job of the GPU and not the developer, and GPUs of today still are not able to do MSAA 8x at 4K and have frame rate at 60. Your choices are lower MXAA setting, lowering the resolution, or living with the lower frame rate. If the visual quality by setting mSAA at 4x or 8x is significant enough, in your view, to justify the lower frame rate, then that is your solution. Or, you can wait for the next generation GPU's.

Thank you for this very informative piece. I've been wondering why my pc could run every game at the highest settings, modern games like Far Cry 5 and PUBG can run pretty well, and FC3 was still lagging behind with constant drops in frames.

Before FC5 came out I played through all of FC3 with 40 - 60 fps at all times, then I played FC4 with 60 - 80 fps at all times, and now in FC5 with 80 - 100 fps. It amazes me that performance has gotten better as I played up the Far Cry series. I just wish FC3 had better optimization, since it holds a place so close in my heart as my first M rated game I was allowed to play, and my favorite game I played on PS3.

I did exactly as you instructed and got about a 10 fps boost. Instead of getting 40 - 60 I'm now seeing about 50 - 70.
Ghetzi 31/mai./2018 às 15:50
I concur - drop MXAA altogether. Then go pick up a graphics mod with 4K textures. 70-80 FPS and looks very nice. I was getting 40-50 with MXAA and DX11. Don’t need to go through all that mess.
