FC3 Missing Executables - Will Not Reinstall

I purchased Far Cry 3 this Tuesday. Game ran perfect all week.Yesterday, when launching the editor OR the main game, I got a popup reading "Steam - Error, Failed to start game (missing executable). See the Steam support site for more information."

I checked the directory and yes, in fact, the executables were missing.

I then logged in to Uplay, clicked on Go To My Games, and it says "You don't have any games now". My bank statement begs to differ.

Last night I decided to uninstall, then reinstall the game. The steam reinstall is only 212 MB, instead of several GB. I installed anyway. Still no executables.

Today, when I launched to Steam to install the game, the file is still only 212MB

Anyone else had this problem?

In Steam:
Right Click on Far Cry 3 -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

Yeah wish I had tried that before uninstalling. It my have brought the executables back. The available fresh intall on Steam is still only 212MB, and does not install execuatbles. After installing the 212MB I verified the cache, but no luck in fixing the problem. Thanks for the suggestion.

i don't have the editor too, i would get it, but it seems to be missing.

Got this error now too, game completely missing exe's in folder also checked how big it was and it was reporting that it was only 26mb?

The hell has happened?

Even redownloading only grabbing 15mb of the game :s


edit: Found the issue it's the map editor with it if you install it for some reason it reports game as missing i just uninstalled FC3 from my list and then map editor said it had an 9gb updated? lol

How did yo fix it? I´m having the same issue, the steam recognizes only 6.8mb of the whole game (only readme!) I don´t know what to do...

I reinstalled steam, and now Far Cry 3 appears to be 7.8gb, (i guess that´s the whole game?) some guy in these discussions said he fixed this issue that way, and it works. (Just create a backupfile for your games ( the Steamapps folder without FC3) or you´ll have to download all of your games again. (After you made your steamapps backup file; delete the whole steam folder with the exception of the steam.exe. Now run the steam .exe file (Reinstalls steam) and follow the instructions, when steam is finally reinstalled, install Far Cry 3 which should appear complete. Paste the former Steamapps folder or download the games again; the good thing is you should have the complete Far Cry 3 game!

Simple, right click on Far Cry 3 in your Steam game list, select "Delete Local Content", once that is complete, head over to your Steam folder.

Program Files (x86) > Steam > Steamapps > Common

Once here if there is a folder for Far Cry 3 delete it, restart Steam then reinstall the game.

FC3 has been uninstalled. Folder deleted. Whenever I try to reinstall, the installer is only 212MB, runs in about 1-2 minutes, and leaves me with an incomplete game without executables. Cache verification doesn't help.

I just ran a "repair" reinstall of Steam. Problem still persists. I am about to uninstall Steam completely, then reinstall it. See what happens.

It may be some kind of registry entry then that is not deleting when the game is uninstalled, that would be the only thing which makes sense in relation to the problem.

Just launched Steam after a clean install, FC3 installer looks like the proper size! I may be back in business!!! I'll post back when the game install is complete...

I can confirm that reinstalling Steam will fix this problem. Note thet you will have to reinstall ALL games purchased through Steam. Game save was not destroyed for FC3 :)

In case someone else runs into this discussion while googling for the problem like I just did, you DON'T have to uninstall and reinstall steam. For me, just going into the tools section of my library and deleting the farcry 3 map editor fixed the problem. After that it reinstalled the full game and I only had to reinstall the map editor instead of my entire steam library
