Shame that PC exlusives graphically havent been able to been trumped since all these games go multiplat (console ports).
Wrong, I booted up crysis warhead and farcry 3; ran each co-currently to make my first statment.
Warhead has way more jungle assets; wind effects and lighting, ground details and 3d mapping effects on the ground. Textures are drastically better to boot. Sorry bro, go run it again and you'll be surprised. Thats why Farcry 3 is a pure 110% graphical port. It feels 'static' is its plantlife (fc3) compaired to crysis; as much as i wanted a new graphics king; i couldnt help but investigate it just to see if I was biased or not.
Turns out running both at the same time and inspecting them side by side is a very scay and real truth. 2007 PC exclusive > 2012 console port.
It has a very 'bare' feel in its design, jungles. textures compaired to warhead and crysis 1.
I cant help but feel bloom, and overall cheap processing effects were traded off to make it run on consoles; then ported to PC without giving us proper PC driven mapping, lighting, HDR.
Massive hype was disproven by a simple alt tab while looking at the 'most impressive FC3 graphics' and then doing the same on crysis.
There is a screenshot I uploaded showing the ground clutter in a 2007 pc exlusive.
When you play FC3, go look for anything remotely close to that level of asset detail.
What you get is this..
Poor flat, ground texture that never really changes from open field to dense jungle.
2d grass stamping that covers the poor texture.
Literally nothing else, a basic ground texture with a 2d grass asset stamp covering it; lol!
Crysis,
leafs in 2d, mushrooms, base hd texture with many transitions, grass clutter in isolated pockets, ground feels 3d in overall depth because of the realistic level of detail.
So on just the ground textures alone FC3 literally has been destoyed by a 2007 game.
No ifs ands or buts about that one, FC3 has one texture for grass and jungles, and the same grass 2d stamping over the entire island; minor changes and barely noticeable. Feels bland and repeititive in graphical design.
Easy to see how much else its lacking if the most basic things like textures and its assets have been neglected massively.
The game is lacking graphically, but gameplay wise its way way better then any Call of Duty game i've played. Gameplay > Graphics at the end of the day, but this thread is here to break fanboy hype and marketing hype with its 'next gen' graphics lol.
The PC has higher resolutions, AA and some other effects, you can safely say it looks better than it does on consoles (I heard those versions are prone for severe pop-in and a short draw distance).
I'm happy with how the game looks.
And it runs very smoothly here - I just turned AA off, it's unnecessary in 1080p (especially if it's such a performance hog - I only use it when the game runs well enough with it on - Max Payne 3 and RAGE are good examples) - I honestly don't notice any bad jaggies here.
The colors look overly bright because the default gamma is insane. Lower it all the way down and be amazed at the improvement.
Bad port you say? We get msaa, ssao, hbao, hdao, foliage aa, farther ao distance, very high res shadows, fov slider, customizable hotkeys, and hotkeys for the inventory, crafting, etc.. You don't know what a bad port is.
The game looks 10x better than skyrim yet performs just as well on ultra settings.
You really expect a multiplatform game to spend a bunch of unneeded time for tiny graphical things just for PC (ie not the biggest market for them)?
Look, it sucks that PC games get held back because of consoles, but it's not that bad. Deal with it. Would slightly better looking ferns really seal the deal for you?
If all that matters is graphics then I feel bad for you. You're probably one of the idiots who thought crysis should be GOTY for the next 10 years even though the actual game was a steaming pile of repetitive ♥♥♥♥ but it LOOKED really nice.
