Cannot Display This video mode, optimum resolution: 1280x1024 at 60Hz

Hi folks,

Any idea how I can solve this issue?

Just bought Far Cry 3 on steam for £7 but this error is displayed on screen after launching the game through UPlay. I get as far as the Far Cry 3 splash screen, followed by a black screen for a few seconds and then the error "Cannot Display This video mode, optimum resolution: 1280x1024 at 60Hz" - Alt+F4 takes me back to the desktop.
