Guys try this, it worked for me.

1. Navigate to the FC3 folder:

C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 3\bin\

2. Locate FarCry3.exe
a. Right Click and select properties
b. In the compatibility tab select the option to run as admin
3. Follow steps a & b for Farcry3_d3d11.exe
4. Create a shortcut on your desktop for whichever version you want to use.
5. Right click on the shortcut and select Properties.
6. Set the Target to: "C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 3\bin\farcry3_d3d11.exe" -uplay_steam_mode

(Remember to include the quotation marks and change C to which ever drive the game is installed to.)

7. Apply changes and launch the game from the icon.

Got it from their tech support and it worked.

earthborn256:
Where is Steam installed?
Where is FC3 installed?
Where is Uplay installed?

FC3 and Uplay should be installed on the same drive, or so I've read.

The path in the Target field will vary from the instructions depending on which .exe you are creating a shortcut for and where the game is installed - the one given would be for the DX11 version of the game, installed to the default location with Steam on the C: drive.

I don't know what "error 704" is, or where it is coming from - are you sure it is not "740"?
If it is "740" then the instructions above will eliminate it.

Generally, you need to provide more information. e.g., If you are getting an "invalid path" error, you should post what path you are using. It is next to impossible to provide too much information, and if you don't provide enough you reduce your chances of getting help because people don't like playing 200 questions.

windows 10
radeon 6600
intel i5 6400 (4 cores, no hyper-threading)
8 gig ddr3 ram

Tried that. I get stuck on the loading screen, the one where you have two guns superimposed on each other that sometimes looks like a butterfly

Sometimes if I press the left mouse button or the enter key, I go past the "butterfly" loading screen to the screen where you have two mirror image figures of a human head stuck with the backs of their heads together. Then it crashes

I finished FC3 blood dragon in 2016, i only now am trying FC3 due to my huge steam backlog and being busy in real life. I re installed blood dragon and at best it crashes at the loading screen with the wire frame mountain in the background and a wire frame pink flat plane in the foreground.

At that time I was using the same PC but it had a geforce 660. It died in september 2024 so the radeon 6600 is new. So far the other game that I have tried which has problems starting is Metro exodus, but metro last light works fine.

Conclusion. Either
1. ubisoft games dont like the radeon 6600 or
2. some update that was made between 2016 and now broke the game for people with my particular hardware config

I assume far cry 4 would probably have the same problem so no way am I buying it
