Far Cry 3 suddenly running terribly
Recently I decided it was time to upgrade my graphics card from a VTX 3D Radeon HD 7750 to an EVGA GTX 750ti SC. This was a great move as it was the best I could get with my current motherboard, fit nicely in my budget and began to run games I'd never been able to run properly such as Bioshock Infinite and Battlefield 3 on High/Ultra settings with near 60fps all the time.

However after upgrading my FPS on Far Cry 3 has gone from 45-55 on Medium to 24-28 with bad stutter on any setting and any resolution.

This is odd because I can run Far Cry 4 on high at roughly 35 fps. Does anybody have any ideas as to why Far Cry 3 has suddenly decided to not play ball?

My PC specs are as follows:

AMD FX-4100 3.6GHz (Turbo 3.7GHz)
MSI 760 P21-GM
8GB DDR3 RAM
EVGA GX 750ti SC 2GB

Any advice/tips would be appreciated
Thanks :)

Have you got the Geforce Experience installed with your drivers? The game should is one of the recognised games that the Experience will optimise (roughly) to your system.

Also, are you running windows aero? If you can swith that off you'll get a (marginal) improvement. Your mileage may vary but these two things are the first to try.

Ubisoft never optimised it.
I recommend giving up on this game. :p2cube:

It runs at 24 fps MAXIMUM at the lowest settings.

Why is it Ubisofts fault that you have a crap gaming pc?

To answer all:

Yes, I have GeForce Experience
Yes, my drivers are up to date
The optimisation point may be so but it doesn't explain why it would run on a Radeon HD 7750 but not a GTX 750ti
My gaming PC isn't exactly a super computer but nor is it crap. It could run Far Cry 3 fine beforehandf and can now run Bioshock Infinite on Ultra, this does not explain the problem with Far Cry 3.

I need config ideas, tweaks, something that will kick it into shape. Because so far everything else including Evolve which just came out and looks beautiful is running fine but Far Cry 3 is the only thing I can't run properly.

Also I have tried disabling Windows Aero, it's still stuck at the are of 24 - 28 FPS regardless

I really don't know. I blame ubisoft because it runs the exact same as mine.

Could try turning off Vsync. Has it run slower SINCE you installed the new card or only since you updated the video drivers? Sometimes newer drivers run certain games SLOWER than an older one. Its rare but it happens.

The proof is your low end PC that you even posted in a thread you created. Since you yourself have no idea what your GPU is outside of its generation, judging by the performance you say you were getting it's one of the lower end cards.

Did you install Far Cry 3 after switching cards? If not I could imagine the game still thinks you're using your 7750 AMD card, which could lead to the problems you mention (have seen that in other games already). I'm not sure where Far Cry stores the info about your GPU, maybe deleting your GamerProfile.xml would help (in User>Documents>My Games>Far Cry 3).

If nothing helps you could delete everything from the Far Cry 3 folder (the one in SteamApps with the game files inside) apart from data_win32 (so you don't have to redownload the whole game again) and then use 'verify integrity of game cache'.

To add to what Phittte said, Make sure you completely removed all the old graphic drivers with driver sweeper or similar.

I have removed all graphics drivers before installing the new card, there are no traces of the old one left I used DDU to sweap them. I wil try the GamerProfile.xml idea now and report back if it changes anything, thanks for the ideas people :)
