[Win11] Locked at 40 FPS?
Hello and thanks for any help! New to Far Cry 3, and it's taken so much work just to get it working, but even after doing this fix via the Windows ADK route, the game is stuck locked at a maximum of 40 FPS.

System specs should more than manage it:

I can at least get into the game and launch it, but on any settings, it's stuck at 40 FPS. Processor affinity didn't change anything, NVIDIA control panel settings didn't bump it up to 60 FPS. Any thoughts or tips? Far Cry 5 and New Dawn play at the 60 FPS cap without issue, but something's limiting the game to 40 here.

Thank you in advance for any help!

I'm not sure if you have already tried that, cause its the most popular fixes. but you can turn off CPU cores in Task Manager and leave only every second core, like CPU 0, CPU 2, CPU 4, etc; I'm gonna copypaste now from reddit, you can also try to follow this path: "/Documents\My Games\Far Cry 3\GamerProfile.xml There's a setting called D3D11MultithreadedRendering="0". Go ahead and set that to 1. I'm now able to max it out with no more slowdowns and much higher CPU/GPU usage." But being honest, Far Cry 3 is very poorly optimized for PCs, cuz its a console game mostly. Even with these fixes FPS wont be that high, but it at least should go over 60, i hope :D Also try to change MSAA settings and see the changes, might also help.

Yeah, that definitely checks out, unfortunately. I appreciate the help, @triple6! Multithreaded rendering is on, only four cores left on in the affinity section. I've used the LAA function for the DX11 executable, fullscreen exclusive, alt+enter back and forth, MSAA off or on any setting, but nothing seems to get it out of this 40 FPS cap it's stuck in for some reason. Yeah, it's unfortunate since I've heard such good things about Far Cry 3's story!

To see the issue myself, I have downloaded the game. For some reason, I have 140–150 FPS without changing any settings with all ultra and msaa 8x. Due to that, I will not be able to tell you what the reason is for the low frames, since I did not have to do anything with that. It might actually be some BIOS setting, as it says on the internet. But what I could definitely say is that it can get fixed for sure if I have more than 100 fps, even though I run it in 1080p. I could only advise seeing more fixes on the internet. It's crazy, but the most insane ones are actually working most of the time for this game xd

Yeah, I wonder if I just have to go the msconfig route rather than the Windows ADK fix. Maybe something about that is restricting it. It's so unfortunate that this is what it takes to get this game working, but your post gives me hope that I can get this at least to a more fluid 60! :)

Ah, I finally solved the issue for anyone wondering. In the GeForce Experience app, if you open the app's settings tab, WhisperMode 2.0 was enabled by default after a recent driver update and that was locking the frames to 40 FPS (even though the settings says "Minimum FPS target," not maximum). Turning this off or increasing it to 60 fixed it. Hope this helps anyone else having issues!
