Lacks a purpose? It's basically a silenced sniper rifle(but quieter) grenade launcher and a molotov launcher all in one inventory slot.
Personally I use the Z93 silenced sniper / Spas-12 for huge game. Smaller animals get the bow
Arrows are nice, but hard to aim, snipers aren't as deadly as they ought to be, so you need more shots, and ammo is expensive, and I havent tried submachineguns.
An assault rifle can do it, but you might spend the whole mag (get attachments mod! use an AK with extended mag! Does loads of damage if need be).
Machineguns are actually friggin overkill, but they feel so nice to use!
Flamethrowers will drop ANYTHING really fast, but using it in the forest tends to get you caught on fire too.
And the Flare Gun... I think it's the Noisy Cricket in disguise...
I think it's more that you need more pratice. I can kill a bear with a 1911. On top of that, you don't need any gun as every animal can be killed with a knife.
Clearly you cant aim. Shotguns are the best for hunting next to the bow and like i said it usually takes like 1-3 shots to kill bears and tigers, kills other animals in just one shot. Have either the tanto knife or the tribal knife as a backup incase you get attacked. You can also use the animal repellent syringe
Everything else dies so easily, you don't need the kick of a shotgun, so of course 1 shot does it. But the big game? Shottys just aren't enough.
And even with the DLC "Predator" rifle, hunting these beasts just turns into another episode of the Benny Hill Show as they run around, taking hits, dodging others, wasting ammo, and maybe finally escpaing over a hillside and then you lost them. Great for deers, boars, cassowaries, but not the big game.
I think there's an explosive round sniper, right? I found one on top of a water tower but it hasn't shown up in the shop yet, so I guess it's a south island gun. Useless for any newbie who needs pelts to sell for money.
The only reliable, fool-proof, life-or-death dependable, way to kill these mammal-tanks I have found is with a LMG or the flamethower, or the "Noisey Cricket" Flaregun.
As for making a profit off hunting, you can use the expensive ammo to hunt, and then restock with ammo caches that spawn in world. There's a few, you can find them in the guides, and they can restock all bullets, and flame fuel, and basic arrows. There is one near the "rice paddy minefield", where buffalo and tigers spawn. Both have pricey pelts, and are easy pickings here.
Yeah, you can run backward and chisel them down with a pistol, but it would suck. That is not a good hunting gun.
But I would like to know how you can melee a high-damage, high-health melee enemy without dying. Even when they don't pounce, they can take loads of health off with a swipe.
The second-island sniper and the signature weapon it's based off of are both one-shot kills, meaning you can pop tigers with just one bullet; use good aim and it's 30+ dead tigers and 60+ tiger skins. I think the signature sniper can be gotten before second island?
