"How to Solve Application Error 0xc0000142 "
Please help! Can't launch this amazing game 😢 it just says "this application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application." This happens when I try to load the game, not even making it to the start screen someone please help! I have tried re-installing it and running as administrator (dll and .exe) but nothing seems to work...I have played the game before and my PC could definitely run it (Windows 10 pro 64 bit) thanks guys :)

I hear that for other programs that throw this error, things to try are:

- Run in compatibility mode (use a pre- WIN10 compat if you can)

- verifying the game files via Steam (google it in case you don't know how to)

- in case of the above doing nothing, consider a complete reinstall of the game, either via Steam or uPlay.

When that doesn't help, others suggest a clean Win 10 install - could be an upgrade issue.
Also look at your gfx card drivers, they may be outdated or too new. If you recently updated the gfx card, try rolling back to the last stable driver you used.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help really appreciate it, tried most of those but nothing seems to work. When I verify the integrity of game cache it says I'm missing a file but it doesn't replace it...could this just be the issue?

Nah, this happens for a lot of users on Steam (me included) in a variety of games.

Unless it actually starts downloading something, the "1 File Failed..." has nothing to say and can be safely ignored. It's Steam trying to update / verify an install file that is not used anymore, as far as I know. Regardless, unless you actually download substantial data after that message, it's nothing to do with any issues.

If it DOES, though, (say the amount of the game's .exe) it might be your antivirus. In that case, disable antivir and verify again. Though if this was the case, you wouldn't even be able to try starting the game and as such won't get this specific error.

But the error you get indicates a faulty install - of what, exactly, I can't say. But if you already tried a lot of solutions, it really seems to be on Win 10.

But have you actually tried setting the game's exe to Win7 compat mode? That would be my first try.

If you did and it didn't help, it's really probably freaking Win 10 that's the issue here.

A very typical thing you often need to do with Ubisoft games is uninstall Uplay from your system, download the latest version from ubisoft.com, and install that. See if that helps. (You may need to do yet another re-install of FC3 after that, annoying as that must be given you've already done so.)

Another related thing you can try is simply running it from Uplay rather than from Steam.
