Why does it float?
If there is nothing to support the floors above and I've taken everything?

Some of the things count as "anchor point" of something and will hold everything up.
Usually everything will eventually come down when you take out enough of the bottom or border parts. Unfortunately unlike with the crane or winch the blocking connecting parts can't be highlighted.

Schaaafrchter is right, but I have a better strategy.

You have one of more pieces of the floating mass which are stuck in place in the world. The simplest way to figure out the problem is to cut the floating mass roughly in half. Cut a vertical channel through it, starting from the top floor and working down.

If there's only one 'stuck' piece, then either you happen to cut that piece out of the mass, in which case it'll all fall down, or that piece ends up in one half, in which case the other half will fall. You may have to do the process a few times to find the offending piece.

Apparently there are more peaces, because I did separate a third of it and it doesn't fall either of them.

For problems like this, you should save the game, zip up the save and the meta file, and post them to the Discord with the ship name and a description of what's floating. The level designers can pull up your save in the editor and figure out the stuck piece(s).

from my experience if you far enough from it. like 3 floor below the top floor won't collapse because. why not......

I use binary chop. If you have a large area that won't collapse, divide it into two by detaching one part from another, wherever you find convenient. If either half doesn't fall, repeat the process. Eventually you remove one piece and a lot of the area falls away for no obvious reason.

Yes, it's a bug. And it's more difficult the more you have to use the rope. But it does work.
